Disciples II: Rise of the Elves

Disciples II: Rise of the Elves

Issues running game...
Running on W11.

I have already put my settings as follows...

checked direct3d
checked stretch to full screen
checked compatibility mode
refresh rate is default
res is 800x600
and for the Config editor, Discipl2, and scenedit files i have tried Windows xp package 2 and 3.

The game starts fine and gets through the menus with no issues. Once the game-play starts though, it suddenly gets extremely sluggish. Everything I've seen says something along these lines to fix it, but nothing has worked. If anyone has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate them.

Side note: it was running everything fine until the game suddenly crashed my computer updated. However, if that is the cause, I don't know why it is only affecting the game-play itself, and not the whole game. Also, the computer runs Fallout: New Vegas with no issues, and it was downloaded after these issues started with Disciples.

uncheck compatibility mode in ConfigEdit.

Can you check Disciple.ini in game folder - did it have used3d=1? Also try put there refreshrate=60
(sometimes ConfigEdit lose it to auto).

And after all of that. Windows UWP (8/10+) broke legacy games entirely. Along with Nvidia they broke even D3D10 renders.
You CANT get game properly working without more advanced tweaks applied by either Microsoft own complicated toolset Windows ADK (App Compatibility Toolkit DXPrimaryEmulation).
There is 3rd party alterations. DxWnd, degeVoodoo, GOGs DX Wrapper (one build of it per both Disciples 2 games in GOG offline versions, not on Steam).

And pre-made solutions as single wrapper dll file. Simplest one is ddraw dll compat By Narzoul (github) version 3.0.1 (4.0.1+ are complicated with ini-settings, 2.0.1 are for Win7).

Again. Windows will ALWAYS run game in strangely laggy way. Without visible FPS drop. Same will happen for EVERY old games.

On Windows 8+ NEVER EVER use Compatibility mode! its become obsolete. Not directly. Its kinda working. But they not solve broken tweaks Windows apply to DirectX uptu-10. You need use additional twekas and EVERY of them starting from Microsoft ADK-ACT to 3rd party ones require disabling modes in exe properties or installed by setup (ZOOM-Platform/GOG and sometimes on Steam)(you cant see them on exe, only in REGEDIT).

Only what should remain is DPI-scaling(-by-application), Disable Fullscreen optimisation and run by admin.

There is App Compatibility Checker by Verok which can remove some of compatibilities by one click (if started by admin).
But GOGs etc compatibilities can be removed only by Ms ADK-ACT or manually (few places in Registry and Windows sys folder).
But there is no such hidden compatibilities on Steam versions. Just turn off what you enabled.

And again. Turn off compatibility mode in ConfigEdit.

Alternatively you can use DisciplesGL Wrapper mod 1.90 by Verok. It is more than compatibility wrapper. First it is widescreen mode mod (and borderless windowed mode).

Such things still require disabling every else tweaks beside what i mention as free to keep. There is REALLY no more sense in Windows Compatibility (and almost never have sense).
Keep 800x600 and stretch. Windowed mode check ✅ and Use D3D ✅ will automatically set to enable DisciplesGL when you first isntall it.
