Better keep RotE only for RotE campaign (+additional 3 mission elves campaign) and for skirmish\multiplayer.
Keep Disciples 2 (aka Dark prophecy aka Gallean's Return) for main story 4x2 campaigns and maybe some skirmish\mp too.
If you want ALL campaign in RotE - you should buy both game and make modded custom campaigns (never be 100% accurate). RotE did not include whole Disciples 2. This is stand-alone game - and that mean it not really addon - this is completely new game, It can content some parts of original or not contain. This time stand-alone expansion did contain SOME parts of base game.
Original Dark Prophecy campaign never rebalanced after 1.2 patch for original game. Not in 1.41, not in 2.00-2.02 and not in 3.01. It stay 1in1 same escept those Un-\FOG scripts "bug".
I bought both GT and RotE. Finished 4 classical sagas of Dark Prophexy and now playing RotE Elven saga and i saw troll and some old drawing are different, new units added to greenskins, barbarians etc and wondered can i fight goblin shaman or trapper etc. with my old Nosferat in his saga..

In your post you mentioned balancing, i didn't see any balancing issues in Dark Prophecy". What sort of balancing we are talking about? Again thanks. Cheers.
Maybe some deamon unit get additional attack effect (blister?)(although im not sure if this is from 3.0 changes, but something did rebalanced before RotE for sure).
Most balance changes are in RotE. Death unit nerf, Gargoyle's attack source... some other units. +10% HP regen for party that end turn on own territory (including neutrals on neutral territory). Critical Hit perk for heroes if you choose Warrior lord (exclude on of the ward or forestwalk... something like that).
many new items and units added in GR 2.02 and later in RotE 3.01.
3.01 patch also fix some new neutral units stats (and how they increase with levels), but not all of them and still many bugs present in RotE (missing Capital icon for Elves, missing armor increase for Sir Allemon and elves Armored Centaur, broken HP and XP stats for level-up-ed Marauder, one of the elves highest tier healer heal ability).
Nothing appear in old campaign cause there is no randomised content in campaigns.
There is unofficial custorm map regenerator randomiser and more recent more extended re-generator. Second one can change old skirmish maps (from DP or GR placed to RotE) replace some content from actual 3.01 RotE game. Or place new content from one-two mods that also supported by this regenerator.
Theoretically you can regenerate content of campaign maps too and then combine them to custom campaign file in normal Editor. But that can broke campaign map.
Would you mind me asking which part of the game you were/are playing (mod? skirmish? randomized? or something i didnt discover yet).
Because i am about the finish Elven Saga and planning to go deeper into the game.

Than... Go to Disciples 2 Exports folder and copy maps from there - put them to Rise of the Elves Export folder... And play every remain maps.
After that - download map regenerator and use it on some of your un(?)-\favorite maps.
Mods? ... Nah, they all are same: Empire main unit is warrior - make additional one first, than some else. Non-balanced changes. If only i can get something lite-version of combined of all that mods content - but only new items and map objects...
I dont want new units and non-balanced changes. So i cant really recomennd something.
