or version incompatiblity. Steam version IS NOT properly patched, use custom exe (which ones is what not patched - 2.0+3.0) and moreover - those exe not allow custom content.
So first make sure you extract games from Steam VPK archives and apply 2.02+3.01 6 exe files from GOG versions.
Save file can be corrupted by version incompatibility. And that mean you should start 2d level from start - from 1st(!) mission save file before it end.
Alternatibely, you can start any campain mission as Skirmish if you install Disciples(2)GL wrapper-mod by Verok (you need enable feature to list all scenarios).
As Skirmish scenario - you can start it with any heroes you saved (same as 1st mission asnormal start).
By this method you can start both 2nd and 3rd mission from start. But again - Steam versions exe files are not properly patched and not allow custom content!
Its working as is. But better restore game to authentic and DRM-free.
Then try new game (repeat all missions) and follow my suggestion to install Disciples(2)GL.
Or you can make it yourself. Still first step required. Then go to Gallean and ueng Wearethechampions code skip all misions backuping Campaign_start_autosave.
Put this autodaves to maps and open in Editor (GR one! using wrong one on this step also can make this bug appear again!). A little editing and combine then to new custom campaign file.
Another one. Actually first steps is install+verify both games.
Install both games. Then go to Library - Tools and install both Editors. Then verify game files for games. Then verify files for Editors. if both verify is correct (shoudlnt be any downloading for this games) - its ok. if not - repeat verify -> dowanload -> repeat veify.
Close Steam. And open VPK_dir archives by GCFScape tool. And only then extract games from Steam VPK archives. to temp folder.
Combine extracted files to new game fodlers. And then if you want - copy+replace files to installed versions in SteamApps.
Next you need 6 exe files +1 pdf file from GOG.
Verify also need to restore default Disciple.ini file. Reconfigure games - now from 2.02+3.01 versions.
Make sure everything work properly - configs, games, editors.
Only then do any of the ways. Replay downlaoded campaign from new start, or use saves trick to make own .csg.
Same way - saves files trick - you cam make custom campaign or skirmish maps for any mission\campaign. On nevendaar.com there is "Open-Saga's" - already made csg.
Starting from Win8 DX-upto-9 is broken. And his game as result didnt work as it should be. Can be solved by any alternatives, but GOG version last update (2019) already fix that.
Also they fix some their build issues, but its still not patched to 3.01 and many contenr are missing.
Best way. Extract all files from Steam archives. And combine them with GOG.
