Disciples I
Make sure Disciple.exe doesn't use any compability modes (especially for GOG releases), or just rename it (e.g. Game.exe)
Download archive below
Extract its content into game "\EXE\" folder near main Disciple.exe (e.g., D:\Games\Sacred Lands\EXE\...)
Launch Config.exe from game "\EXE\" folder and make sure DirectDraw option is checked
Launch Disciple.exe
Have fun ;)
Disciples II
Make sure Discipl2.exe doesn't use any compability modes (especially for GOG releases), or just rename it (e.g. Game.exe)
Download archive below
Extract its content into game root near main Discipl2.exe
Launch ConfigEditor.exe from game root and make sure Direct3D option is unchecked
Launch Discipl2.exe
Have fun ;)
I downloaded the first file, but the second (wrapper) does not have a link to download.
To my surprise I couldn't even launch the game.
Both Disciples Sacred Lands and Disciples II Gallean's return which I have on steam launched and worked fine. I was expecting the same for Rise of the Elves, but it refused to launch.
Apparently there is a fix above that I could try out, but instead of doing that I decided to dig out my old Disciples 2 Rise of the Elves discs and see if they would world on Windows 10 and lo and behold after downloading and installing it, it played just fine on my PC.
The game's Configuration Editor allowed me to increase the resolution slightly to 1024x768 and can play it full screen, with music and am able to alt tab without crashes.
My question if the original game on a disc works fine on Windows 10, why does the GOG or steam copy require a fix in order to play it on Windows 10?
Try to rename ddraw,ddl.
But, if your GOG GR version work - than u mess with game settings. Or adminrights. Nothing else... and again - nothing else. There is absolutely no differences in laucnhing\configuring GR 2.01\2.02 and RotE 3.01. Only minor things, minor options differences from ingame settings (like Flip battle sides).
GOG provide 3.0 version with 3.01 exe (Steam - vise versa). U must install RotE Gold Upgrade Setup - download it from "Does the GOG have Gold thread..."
Can you provide me the link to get the RotE Gold upgrade? Is that all you need to make the GOG edition work?
BTW, I have Gallean's Return on steam, not on GOG and my steam copy of GR launches and works quite well.
It is the GOG RotE version that refused to launch for some reason.
My RotE physical CD version works quite well on Windows 10 so I don't know why GOG's version refused to launch.
Here the setup from that thread from GOG forums. better check hole thread. After some GOG updates it cant be installed without WIN REGEDIT -ting.
http://www.mediafire_.com/file/s1miymqga88pw1y/Rise_of_the_Elves_Gold_Expansion_Pack.exe/file (remove _ syblom)
both 2.1.0.8 and current builds.
Or my link

GOG still missed some Gold maps and leaders even after >10 years from initial GOG release!
I dont use Win10. Someone of forums report that GOG DXCFG is not working on Win10 after some updates. Other reports that it works. Unfortunately no one provide enough info, and as i say - Setup or Galaxy do not create links to DXCFG config tool. So all of them use it as it preconfigure. And default config (for offline setup) is wrong. U must run dxcfg.exe (as admin of course) and setup all as "By application" and "default".
Or jsut rename ddraw.dll in GOG version folder.
Make sure u properly set ConfigEdit.exe (as admin). Do not set 1280x1024 - game zoom it wrong and in not original 4:3 (this is 5:4). Also 1024p for widescren monitors required FullHD minimum. 1360x768 display resolution is lower than 1280x1024 and game not start if you set that.
Check checkboxes for D3D and others that they set same as for GR.
And same for DXCFG.exe. After i set game settings and start it, i rename ddraw, ddll back and set up DXCFG. If you choose resolution higher that 1024x768 - it disable mouse camera scroll. Not a problem, cause arrows still work.

Set display refresh rate manually, not auto. Both in DXCFG and in ConfigEdit. If you want mouse scroll, set display as application. I have 1080p display but set just a bit lower resolution. And this is my Disciple.ini

Something like Gsync and DVR. Also for refreshrate\Gsync - mostly displays support maximum refreshrate only on maximum aka native resolution. If you set 1024x768 check on Windows Desktop what refreshrates available for that resolution (temporary set this resolution).
Install GOG version better from offline installer. As admin. In folder like X:\Games\Disciples-2-RotE\. or if from galaxy - check game files after installation. twice.
Galaxy and Galaxy games folders must be same as X:\Games\GOGgalaxy\ and .\GOGgames\.
Set on to Galaxy exe "runasadmin".

GOG set some compatibility. Some of them - for every games. And not that must be set. Verok provide tool for check any compatibility that set for game. Must be "runasadmin" and not "disable DPI scaling" (differ name and function on differ Windows and on differ update build of Win10).
Make sure you have one of the latest stable build of Windows 10. It required for proper function of GOGs wrapper and for proper function of DPI scaling compatibility.
Also, on Windows 7 there is "disablethemes", "disablemenuthemes", "disabledwm" and "disableaero". Win8 and Win10 do not have that compatibility on files properties, but only Vista Aero is removed from Win8 (now Metro). All 3 others still required for some old games and better set them to all.It possible through Windows REGEDIT or by Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit from Windows ADK tollsset (for Win10).
Game start and work on Windows 10 normally. Without wrapper. Steam version as is not better one, and you should know how Steam work...
And how is not. Steam links always worked incorectly - dont use them.
For Steam version you should install 2 apps for one game - game + editor.
GOG offline version lack of content and preset not needed compatibility. But better cause it offline installer and proper DRM-free 2.02/3.01 exe's.
All PC games require some tweaks. Always be that.
GLwrapper fix response time for Win8/10 and allow tweak something else. Now game with it always be borderless windowed. That all make GLwrapper as mod instead of fix. Theoretically it not fix anything.
There's only one issue I encountered. When using the scenario editor (yes, this works there too), then using Change Leader when modifying a party, scrolling through Neutral/Neutral Elves crashes the game.
I then tried validating the files (which removed this patch's effect). Scrolling again, the unit I couldn't go to was Dark Lachlaan. WIthout the patch, the scenario editor doesn't crash when you see him in the unit list.
I then reapplied the patch and yes, it crashes again. Whatever it is, Dark Lachlaan's data causes it.
