Is there a release date? Will the game be out in Early Access?
We'll be releasing in Early Access on Feb 20, 2023! The full release is planned for Q2 2025, see our roadmap here.

Can I date NPCs? Are they locked by gender?
YES! You’ll be able to date romanceable NPCs regardless of gender. There are 10 dateable candidates in the Early Access Release. Marriage will be added for the 1.0 release.

Will Research Story be on Switch and other consoles? How about Mac/Linux?
We're planning to work on the base game for PC (Windows) first before looking into consoles and other platforms!

Is there multiplayer?
We have no plans for multiplayer at the moment. Research Story will be a single-player game.

Can I play the demo after the Steam Next Fest event?
Yes! Our demo is still available on Steam. However, most of the updates (including controller support) are for the full game and unavailable in the demo at this time.

I’m playing on Windows 7 and I can’t launch the game. Will the game support Windows 7?
If you're playing on Windows 7, there's a known issue due to the game engine we use, where players cannot launch the demo. It should have been fixed in the 1 Apr 2022 update. If you still face issues, let me know!

I played the Research Story demo (v0.3+) on the Steam Deck and bought the full game. It is not showing my save file.
This is a known issue. The troubleshooting guide is here.

It's currently playable with Keyboard + Mouse (it was first designed that way, actually!). We hope to add a keyboard-only (without mouse) option in the future.

I see. Mouse-only controls is something I have not considered before, thank you for bringing my attention to that! It's something that I'll keep in mind.

Hi! I just checked and it still works on my deck (v0.2.9) - may I know how it stopped working for you? (e.g. can't even launch, or crashes during the game etc.) I'll look into it!

Demo Q: Does the chest provide extra storage or is it just decoration? I abandoned my new attempt at the demo because of storage issues. (Thought of chest blueprint afterwards...)

Also, WTH am I supposed to do with submitted research docs? They're just taking up space & I've been told to write a book - how can I do that if I can't collect more data? (Space issue again...) PS How do I "write a book" anyway?

Hey! Chests do provide extra storage - 18 slots per chest.

When you get a Research Scroll, you can submit them at the Archive. There should be empty shelves reserved for you - click on them to open up a menu to submit them.
When you submit a research scroll, you'll see that each 'Book' is made up of several scrolls For e.g. Chamomile, Peppermint and Wild Violet make up the Flowers & Herbs (Spring) Book in the Demo.
