There's the link to it.
Just one man's opinion, of course.
Currently, there is a problem that the loading time is too long when starting the game. That may be the second reason for the cut. However, there should have been a choice to entertain the player by showing a movie while loading.
About animation. It's simply a matter of budget. This was a lower budget project than you might imagine.
If that is true, it should be included. Barney the dinosaur could make an unexpected cameo in the intro for all I care. Essential atmosphere.
For this price it should be possible to recoup the investment. I really hope they're on-track. The reviews are rough. It still has a way to go.
We're not simply after a recreated strat engine. Some graphical, cinematic and UI niceties are needed.
It is not too late to complete the Spell of Remastery
This means adding the intro.
It would only play once by default anyway.
Adding a damage prediction tooltip giving an estimation of how much damage you'll make and how much damage will be prevented. Or a two level tooltip, first level = just say how much health they'll likely lose and you ; second level of detail = explain everything. I am pretty sure it was asked during beta.
Don't listen to the people explaining why you should not do this, because if they have no problem they'll probably have no problem if it's added either. Only not do it if you have a good vision about why it should not be there.
When hovering on a population limit, explain what kind of tiles contributed to your limit.
I would go as far as no longer telling a dungeon content accurately and going back to a description, and having dungeons spawn again "more" (I have a feeling they spawn less now), and checking other modifications which may have disturbed the "mystery".
Because now our caster is "placated" on a mirror in the tower with the same illustration as during character creation. There is no longer a "contextual" presentation to look for.
Some goes for unit summoning (the default animation is ok but its the same unit illustration, vanilla Mom had a special pixel art for unit summoning) or other things such as town screen (vanilla mom had contextual workers depending on your faction, now farmer/worker icons are not contextualized with your faction) and so on. And even lack of nicer and more contextual diplomatic quotes. Everything above was mentioned during beta, I am sure they had some time constraint here, but some of the "magic" is missing ;)
I do like the current unit animations (movement etc) though and most of our MoM original ruleset is there.
"Old man, you seek the spell of master" - MOM classic , at least that's what I have been hearing all the time when I played the game more than 2 decades ago... master or mastery in classic??? mmmmm
anyway, I like to name Merlin as Old man
They really should have put it for release, first impressions are important.

I also think that besides the low sound quality, that the old video, sound better
The reply of Merlin however, after "you have come too late", is harder to hear.
In vanilla :
The voices, more human aspect (and not smiling face) of the enemy mage, and "darker aspect" of Merlin when he is casting present us with some depth.
In remake intro :
There is a great quality in the initial scenery, a nice atmosphere here ; scenery is successful imo. I am still disturbed by the coming mage initial expression (which is "smiling", "smirking") and some more outlandish aspect he displays. I think however that this "second version of the remake intro" (I remember another version in the past?) is really good enough to be featured.
As someone said, a good intro is worth a lot when it comes to first impressions. It is like the memorable intro sequences to movies like Watchmen (tells the viewer what has gone before and sets the mood) and Deadpool. Cut scenes have a much lesser impact; and there is so often extra-stupid dialogue *sigh*
