I've been waiting for this remake to happen for 2 decades.
I think you are missing a great opportunity, and should reconsider this.
What about hotseat?
I appreciate a faithful remake but these are the kinds of titles where things like more options and multiplayer functionality would be what makes it really worth buying instead of just going with the classic.
Slitherin and Muha Games both have experience with multiplayer titles. Not making this multiplayer is just wrong.
Maybe I'm just old school, but I don't imagine liking this remake more than the original, and multiplayer is the way to bring this classic into modern day, otherwise it will just be another cheap remake that is forgotten about within a year.
Oh, that's a huge disappointment. I had been googling around for this same question, I was really expecting that multiplayer would be one of the big new features of the remake... it was understandable for the original not to have multiplayer, given that the internet was barely a thing back then, but a strategy game in 2021 really should have multiplayer unless there's a specific reason it can't.
I mean I can think of some single-player only games that have been popular (although the only strategy game that comes to mind off the top of my head is Distant Worlds Universe, which would be difficult to make work in multiplayer), but otherwise, I agree 100%.
It's the defining feature that many of us fans have been wishing for and dreaming about.
I imagine the goal is to bring in NEW players to master of magic as well as please the old guard of fans.
The graphics of the original are charming and even trying to hit on the same level of aesthetic and art style is admirable but is it really that big of a deal? Is that what is holding back newer players? Quite possibly, it makes total sense as something to devote time to.
But what about the other improvements? More customization is great for fans of the game but newer players wont even know any better.
Just one more voice saying multiplayer is key, steams new screen sharing options make it reasonably easier to make a multiplayer game without the headache of sorting all internet connection issues between host ect.
So, it's a tough choice. Personally, I think Hotseat would be great. But maybe as a patch or free DLC once the game is actually launched.
