Air Elemental
New to the game as a few days ago. I assume the reason I can't harm the air elemental is that it is immune to non-magical weapons? Even magical attacks it seems from orc magicians. which seems odd?

It's invisible, so you can only hurt if your unit is on an adjacent tile, unless the attacking unit has true sight.

If you mean that you are unable to attack it at all, like you get a symbol showing attacking it is invalid, that is because it is flying and you are trying to attack it with a unit not capable of hitting flying units.

Another is that if the unit is ranged you can't hit invisible units at range unless you have True Sight, as PL said.

So the only way to attack an Air Elemental is with a melee unit that can hit flyers or with a ranged unit that has True Sight. Having magic weapons will just result in doing more damage, but you can hit them without magic weapons as well, the damage will just be less.

Well I was next to it, so it was visible, but my missile attack hero couldn't do even target it and neither could the orc magicians. So kind of strange, but maybe I'll try some other combos to see. So my hero didn't have true sight, so maybe that was it. But the orc magicians couldn't target it with the default range attack or fireball spell. So ?

Orc Magicians don't have true sight unless you cast it on them.

Missile attacks can not trigger on adjacent enemy units. Since the Air Elemental is flying, it also requires an attack that can target flying units. Without a way of giving a ranged unit the ability to see invisible units, that means something with a breath, gaze, or thrown attack is needed or of course another flying unit.
