How easily modifiable is the game?
Especially with stuff like creating custom hero's and what not.

I would have a big problem trying to dfeine "Easy" as it's very relative.
But I will say that the reason I'm gonna stay around is that the game is Amazingly Friendly to modding and Ive heard for plans to be even more so.

Its fairly easy to mod if you can edit xml files. We have started uploading some mods to NexusMods, Xeth's hero pack is available with 30 new heroes. Custom hero art will be possible in a future patch (hopefully in a week or two)

I am used to modding dwarf fortress and cataclysm dark days ahead, so xml editing is right up my alley.

Took me yesterday about 1,5 hour to understand the basics of modding and to modify all nature spells slightly (just for testing) and effect of starting books.

I'm curious if they implemented importing your own image files to add portraits for custom wizards like some other games do. Not really related to modding I suppose, but it still looks like the place to ask.

If it's not modded and you just made a custom wizard based on Kairos but imported and used his official art as the portrait, then yes exactly.

Problem solved then lol The most difficult part is handling the artwork because wizard images are 4096 x 1024 (probably due to widescreen support) otherwise the coding for the wizard takes like 20-30 minutes max.

Nice, apparently my problem was do to the 2D Modding guide saying that the background pic had to be 14089 x 3456.
Seemed a bit...huge. :)

Yeah not sure where 14089 x 3456 came from but the wizard background image is 4096 x 1024. The good part is you don't need a full 4096 x 1024 image. Like yeah it needs to be that big but you only need to fill about 2000 x 1024 of the image and you can leave the rest of it blank.

Does it work like this?

And to reiterate I'm asking about the Custom Wizard feature, not modding.

Oh, then no. Just putting the images into the required area won't do anything. They will need to be assigned to a Wizard to be made available.

Oh so it does require modding then. Ok

All I get when I try to change a wizard's smaller icon/portrait is an empty white picture. Wish the guy who made the custom wizards would put out a guide - got to be something small I am missing. Used lowercase filenames in both the AdditionalImages folder as well as in the wizards XML. Made sure image was 640x640, though the guide says it will stretch it. Man modding is aggravating.
