Data dies of old age...
Wtf devs... Also other than the advisor audio cue I get no notification whenever a leader dies so I have to open up the leader window to figure out who I'm missing now.

It's definitely an oversight.

I think it was Insurrection he mentioned his power cells last about 300+ years

This is even more hilarious when you consider that the entire point of Picard S1's extremely dumb Mass Effect ripoff plot is that synthetics and organics can never co-exist because synthetics don't die of old age.

Of course, it was one of Data's fondest wishes to be mortal with a finite lifespan.

That plot was dumb on so many levels, especially since Species 8472 could have said hello.

Yeah I laughed at that as well .. Oops. I also can't do the end game crisis because the initial Borg system well it's in in Klingon space now haha

You have to declare war to the Klingons and after that you could fly with the enterprise to that system ... even I defeated the Klingons too fast, you have some years OPEN BORDERS

Honestly what I find crazy is that people think technology lasts longer than biological, tell me, how often do pc parts need replacing and maintenance, once every 100 years or so right? What, no? Oh that's right it's usually every few years depending on use (and maintenance far more regularly) because technology breaks down, even in the Star Trek universe.
Machines are far from immortal and even if you were to constantly replace every part you would still get degradation over time

I don't know, I've got a food mixer from East Germany still going strong and never needed a part replaced! :steammocking:

Yes, realistically speaking, the universe is even more hostile to computers than it is towards organics.

But a big part of why our current technology does not last very long, is that it's designed to fail. Companies want to sell you the same gadget regularly, not just once or twice in your lifetime.

The society in the Trek era has left this planned obsolescence in the past. There the technology mostly becomes obsolete through scientific progress and not because it's designed to last just a few years for the sake of bigger profits. Remember that it's a post-scarcity, post-capitalist future utopia.

It's very plausible that Data would have been designed to last hundreds of years in the Trek universe, because he wasn't a product of an industry. With proper shielding from cosmic rays etc, highly advanced computer parts like his could survive quite long. But that is only because Trek has quite exotic materials and elements that do not exist in reality, anything can be just handwaved into existence there.

One of the devs said on the official discord that he already fixed this and it will be available for the public in the next update.
