Starting Ships - Federation
I feel like this needs to be addressed in updates or DLC.

You only start with the Miranda Class and I was able to research the Intrepid Class later on but that is the only two classes you start with.

They should at least add a more expensive, more power Excelsior Class to compare with Miranda and maybe the Ambassador Class.

Have Nebula, Galaxy, and other classes available later on for research. I don't want every class of ship because it would be overwhelming but more than what is listed would be nice.

This is a problem with previous games...licensing. This looks to be a TNG era game, so they can't touch TOS. It's dumb. This would be better starting in the Enterprise era or with a random mode like BotF.

They have Mirandas which is from TOS era (Wrath of Khan). Why not add Excelsior as well then? Excelsiors were in TNG and DS9 frequently.

Also the Ambassador, Nebula, and Galaxy Classes are all TNG era ships and don't appear in TOS era.

Excelsiors are in the game though, they just need to be researched.

Oh, I haven't seen them yet. I thought they were already available long before Khitomer.

I have the Intrepids (Voyager) in the game. They came way after Excelsior.

You get 5 ship classes. Only 5. And they are quite spread out.

ya the ships are kinda wonk, it took forever to get the excels, and whats more the tech you can upgrade on your intreps/exels make it pretty much all around better then the enterprise which is a bit weird. Should just be able to upgrade those special ships as well.

Well I saw this game and initially thought maybe this was a modern reboot of Birth of the Federation by Microprose. However I didn't like it when I say Paradox, as that means this is probably the spine of the game, the ribs, arms, lets, bones, etc will be put on the spin in the form of numerous DLC. Will I get a default shape for a Federation ship like the defiant and to get the actual unit (which I just point to almost all Paradox games in the last 5 or so years) to make it look like the real Defiant I have to buy the Federation - Generation 1 Unit Pack.

I have most all Star Trek games ever made including the real stinkers, but I worry just like Star Trek Online has done or Star Trek Timelines, this is going to be a heavily monetized game.

Not uncommon in Paradox games to have to buy DLC/Expansion packs to get newer ships, new factions, etc so only finding a few ship type is not unexpected. I will just wait for Humble Bundle to put it in one of it monthly choice bundles or this goes on sale with 5 or 10 dlc packs added in at a low price. This rule of thumb applies to all games I buy today and probably the last decade. Why pay the high price of a new game when it isn't going to make a difference except maybe in pvp and events I will miss to save $20-40.

You get 5 classes with each empire. Miranda is what they chose as the frigate class for the Feds (in Stellaris terms). It does not take that long to get to where you have access to destroyers.

This is not Star Trek online. It is a grand strategy game spread over a 300 year timeline. Expect the content to be spread out accordingly.

Miranda , Intrepid , Defiant , Galaxy & Sovereign classes can all be unlocked so far

let,s be honest a NH version starting in 2150s would be idealistic and lets hope they come out with a real generations game to match NH

Any other ships in the game? The promo images shows the Excelsior.

The amount of ships available to races in this game is a bit silly considering the amount of ships available in the Star Trek universe..

The Star Trek New civilisations total conversion for Stellaris has over 500 ships in it..
1. Mod it
2. Yea... feels wrong that they got hte license yet FAILED at using it properly
3. What would be wrong in adding the ships untill then for start? Klingons would start off with at least Shielded BoP's alongside K'tinga's and K'vorts at least.

All we know is : This game needs some Modding touching (as its already a great system that each race has DIFFERENT ships and slot combinations at least) and then it will outperform Stellaris big time. The trek mod of Stellaris covers more timeline shure, but does a bad job at it realy.. also its heavily outdated with the dev's REFUSING to update it to modern stellaris specs.

the intrepid being your light cruiser to the excelsior being the cruiser is a little odd I agree. Ideally I'd like to see the federation get more hulls and make it an upgrade. so the Miranda eventually is repalced by the defiant, the light crusier is a constellation and replaced by intrepid, etc

I still haven't seen the Excelsior. It should be the starting ship. This is an epic fail. Start with a Frigate and Destroyer class. Frigate being Miranda and Destroyer being Excelsior.

You can then add Nebula (light cruiser), Intrepid (Cruiser), and Galaxy (Battleship).

Have Defiant as special corvette warship and have Sovereign replace Galaxy.

Not a huge ship line up there but you at least hit the big ones used a lot in the TV series
