What Empire is everyone starting with?

Cardassians for me, same as my first game if BOTF

I asked three Trekkie friends who I should start as, and they gave me three different answers: Romulans, Klingons, Cardassians.

Therefore it seems like my only option is to choose Federation.

My following playthrough will be:
Playthrough 1. Klingon conquer all is usually the easiest way to play a game and I'm genuinely curious about the Klingon Voice Pack and Klingon culture.
Playthrough 2. Federation Befriend them all. Focused on unlocking all main characters from Star Trek.
Playthrough 3: Kardashians Rule the galaxy as Kim by enslaving all species.

I think I wanna play it like this - 1st playthrough Federation to try and make most diplomatic and exploration options, 2nd Klingon for Galactic Supremacy , 3rd Romulan to mix these two playthroughs and then maybe I would like to go with Federation but making them agressive and evil :D

Echoing DiamondDuty -- I'd have liked to see the Ferengi upon release as well (the anticipated DLC notwithstanding). This would have further linked back to the good old Birth of the Federation Days (where the 5th primary faction was the Ferengi). I think the omission of the Ferengi as a starting faction was a substantive marketing oversight in terms of nostalgia (Star Trek lore/frequency/popularity notwithstanding).

In terms of DLC though, personally I'd like to get the Breen as an expansion sooner rather than later, followed by the Tholians and the Tzenkethi.

I'm sure the Dominion, if fiscally successful, will make an eventual appearance as well.

The dominion is likely to be another end game crisis rather than playables, since their relative power was strong enough to nearly overwealm the Romulans, Klingons, and Federation combined.
