Never played Stellaris - like Star Trek - is this game good for me?
Hello together. As I read a lot of people tends to dislike this game by comparing it to Stellaris. But if i never played Stellaris, could you recommend it as a Star Trek game?

Thx for the answer.

It’s abandoned. I bought it to support its future development as a Star Trek game but then they dropped it. When I did play it was not sufficiently Star Trek flavored enough for my tastes so I never played again.

I’m a huge Trekkie and am sad to say it was a disappointment.

Whilst you not playing Stellaris at least means you are coming in fresh, and this game will be a new experience to you, it is still important to discuss that game. Many 4x and grand strategy fans probably have Stellaris, like me, but honestly it is massively overrated. It looks nice, and on the surface looks deep and full of endless possibilities, but it really isn't. A human empire ultimately doesn't play dramatically different from a race of mushrooms, birds or fish like creatures. Space combat and conquest, which are quite important in a genre with 'Conquest' as a key part of the name, has no skill and little strategy. Unless you ramp up the difficulty (advantages) for the enemy, or you are the one instigating conflict, expect to sit there for hours doing almost nothing. Stellaris hides behind a veneer of complexity, but it is quite shallow.

So why all this talk of Stellaris and not STI? Well thats because STI is worse than Stellaris, and was just an older version of that game with a bit of Star Trek stuff bolted on.

Stellaris has a mod called New Horizons. That has a lot more heart and love poured into it than this trash. Even though I think Stellaris isn't all its made out to be, note you can often get the Stellaris base game on sale for ~£8. Maybe get that and the free mod? You effectively are getting two games for that price. Stellaris is still being supported as well.

Yes I recommend it, on sale. it's a good Star Trek game but keep in mind that it's been abandoned so don't expect any more content in the future...
