That being said, while sounds and visual fx would be nice I don't personally see it as a priority.
I think starting tech being fixed should be addressed first and then expanded ship sets. I would ideally like to see something along the lines of Star Trek New Horizons (ST:NH)for Stellaris. Multiple different classes (beyond the frigate, destroyer, cruiser, battleship of stellaris) with many refits.
I personally also think that the timeline for starting is poor. I don't see why a Star Trek Enterprise wasn't used as a start or at the very least the original series starting point.
After that the game feels empty and short. I don't feel a need to make multiple large fleets like the shows either.
I really feel like each of those items are core gameplay components that need to be addressed first. At present the game just lacks depth and replayability.
If they could get to the depth of ST:NH and then have the new features fleshed out, as well as adding more new features, I think this could easily become the best ST 4X game.
On the timelines point, I sadly think players need to be realistic here. It is very clear the devs haven't got the full licence for Star Trek. If they haven't even got the right licence to play TNG sounds, TNG music, have TNG voice actors, or even voice clips from a show released over 25 years ago, they won't have anything for ENT, TOS or the TMP era. The only conceivable way they could expand into those eras is with payable DLC. Would players be willing to pay for that? Part of me says "Yes", but given how shallow the basegame is why would I expect these DLC to be any richer in content? I'm sure modders will add ENT, TOS and TMP ships, so whats left that the devs could add?
Personally I don't think the devs have done enough to the basegame to warrant any DLC, but I bet their Paradox masters are already pushing them to produce some low quality overpriced crap early in 2024. I hope the devs will ignore that push and instead focus on improving their base game before turning to decent DLC. My expectations are rather low, but one can hope.
then why would they even be allowed to release this? mods right now blow it out of the water. right now Trek IP is divided into 2 Ips. the classic and the Kelvin. CBS technically owns the Classic eho ever game these guys the go ahead is an idiot if they limit it so much that can even use era specific sounds
