Deuterium Production + Deficits
Hello! I am new to the game, playing my second campaign. I am pretty far into it now, and no matter what I do, I cannot keep up with production. I am negative +/- 1400 for several hours of the game now, in what equates to many years in game.

I even tried an experiment: I deleted all my military ships. The only thing I have left, are the Enterprise, and 2 construction ships. The deuterium cost and consumption did not change, either. Am I missing something, is this a big, or what? I have a HUGE cost for the deuterium, and yet my ships and what each of them cost as maintenance do not even come close to what it shows in the menu that the ship upkeep is.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Cheers.

- D.

Defence platforms have a deuterium upkeep. So only build them where you think you will need them.

Damn ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pirates keep blowing up my systems so I have to build starbases and Defence platforms on every system to keep them from attacking and destroying me.

On the production side of things, building a Replicator on a colony will add two artisan jobs which increases Deuterium production. Zoning additional Industrial districts will create artisan jobs (more Deuterium). You can use the Improve Specialist Production action with a Governor ship to further boost the output of artisans.

Look out for an Engineering tech which unlocks the Ice Mining Station. This is a building for starbases which yields 10 Deuterium but requires a system with icy planets or asteroids. These are fairly common, though.

If you integrate the Bolians you gain a civic which adds 0.10 Deuterium (and other resources) for every point of trade value.

The Replicator Complexes building boosts the production of any Deuterium-producing jobs.

There are a few Engineering techs which reduce ship upkeep as well, and this would apply to defence platforms as well.

ok thanks! I knew about all the other stuff... I did not know the defense platforms had that upkeep cost, so that would explain why I have such a high "ship cost" even when I deleted all my ships as part of the test. I don't like that aspect... haha. I'm getting attacked a lot from multiple fronts, and those platforms help save my stations.

Good to know. Thank you!

some armies also have a deuterium upkeep cost as well, might be all but haven't checked

Do you know which class of planets count? Apparently G class planets do not count even though their description says:

It is said these lands bare nothing but ice and a dangerously thin atmosphere.

Note that the regular asteroid fields don't count. It has to the the blue/icy ones.

It seems that Alpine and Tundra planets are compatible. Both are L class planets. If you hover the mouse on them on the map, it says Frozen Climate.
