Liberating Bajor?
Will this bug be fixed soon? Currently as the Federation there is NO way to save Bajor from the Cardassians. We cannot declare war on Cardassia and take Bajor, we cannot claim the system, demanding they be set free does nothing...so, what can we do?

I demanded they be set free as well as fought and won a war with the Cardassians where I took Bajor. Nothing changed. It all went back to the Cardassians. Then it was a long time before I could demand they be set free again.

I heard in another thread that if you demand they be set free and they arent then we can make a claim and declare war. I thought I had done that and it didn't work. Maybe I didn't do it in the right sequence.

Will this just be fixed please?

It should simply be - You are Federation, you contact the Cardassians and choose the Liberate Bajor option, then you should be able to have that be your war goal, then be able to declare war and when you win Bajor has their freedom.

Currently, when you try this you cannot declare war. The option is greyed out. Will someone please fix!

In order to get them to be freed, IE they become their own free power, you have to:

1) Interact with Bajor and select the Support Liberation Option
2) Interact with Cardassia and demand they liberate their subject
3) Wait for Cardassia to respond (Possible bug issue at this step)
4) If Cardassia says no, you gain a new war goal of liberation.
5) Declare war goal with that "liberation" option being your war goal. You have to make sure you select Liberation. If you go to war with a different war goal you will NOT liberate Bajor even if you win.
6) Proceed to Integrate Bajor as you would any other minor Power.

**Note: There is a common bug where Bajor will be freed, but will be"fast tracked" to being re-subjugated by Cardassia. Have to keep an eye on them and be ready to Gift, Improve relations, and do missions ASAP to integrate them**

If you you get unlucky with any of the bugs currently in the game the only other option would be to go down the "militant" aka Spy/Section 31 Mission Tree. This changes the Federation War Policy and always you to claim in an offensive war.

Hope this information helps!

It's a weird thing anyway since they gain their freedom themselves in the lore.

There is a way to peacefully liberate Bajor.

With the traditions you have access to the Diplomatic Solutions Ascension Perk, increasing Diplomatic Acceptance by 50. That doesn't bring you all the way, however, I also had a modifier giving me another +15 on the "Liberate Subject"-Action, that I don't know what it actually was. nevertheless, The Bajorans became independent and I could integrate them using the regular way of minor-integration.

Others also have mentioned that you can start a libeation war - either way, please don't cry Bug only becaue you don't know the solution.

That may explain why I couldn't take the Trelka system when I joined the Romulans in waging war on the Cardassians at the same time as doing diplomacy to claim Bajor, and lost Denobula in the process. Couldn't find how to get Denobula back so started over

Ok, speaking of a war to liberate Bajor. After I declare the war, do I just attack into the Bajoran system and try to land troops or do I have to attack the Cardassians in general? I fear I have Ferrari'd this up...

This.

Bajor just needs the Federation's help to remain free, and if they were going to be lore-accurate as possible then they would hugely resist being assimilated into any of the major powers.

It certainly helps the war to end quicker and in your favour if you attack some of the Cardie's systems. I can't remember if you HAVE to do it or not, because in my games I bounced through a few of their systems before I waltzed into Bajor - I wanted to take out the Cardie's ability to build ships, and eliminate their current fleets.

Agree, it would be more lore accurate if Bajor was independent at the start of the game with the Federation already guaranteeing their independence.

This way, the Cardassians would have to declare war to occupy Bajor instead of the other way round.

At the same time, it would be great if there was an alternative mission path for the UFP where they don't defend Bajor, if the player doesn't want to wage an early war against the Cardassians.

Except the Cardassians occupied Bajor in 2318 and the game starts in 2346.
...
and yes, I Ferrari'd it up by letting the war run too long and the game declared I lost even though the Cardassians lost way more ships than me and maxxed out their war fatigue first, but having not sent armies to Bajor the only options I was given for ending the war were "Surrender", which was never going to happen, "Status Quo", which didn't look like it would free Bajor, and "Create Neutral Zone", which also didn't look like it would free Bajor.
The blasted Cardassians then "assimilated" Bajor before I could stop them

Ok, clearly I don't know how to war properly. I landed troops on Bajor and Cardassia, and I had taken out their starbases in both systems and the 5 systems surrounding Bajor, and the Cardassians still didn't surrender. I sued for peace, hit "Status Quo" (because I didn't think a Neutral Zone would help) and it gave all 7 systems I was holding back to the Cardassians.

What am I doing wrong? How do I take systems from other powers?

Who or what gave you that extra +15? No matter how much I improved my standing with the Cardassians, that -50 wouldn't budge, which is most vexing.

You have to {"ratify claims" and claim star systems. Which costs a lot of influence.

Started (another) Klingon playthrough and finally found the claims toggle hiding in plain sight in the map options around the system/galaxy view button. I feel like such an idiot that it took until my 5th start for me to spot that. Oh well. At least that should put the military option on the table properly.
