Romulan vs Borg

Any suggestions on how to beat the borg fleets with romulans? Ive won multiple games with the romulans before the crisis ever starts so its not the biggest deal but so far in any game ive played with the romulans my fleets are just not powerful enough to do the Janeway missions to defeat the borg.

This game for instance my fleet capacity is 20 and all ships are fully manned and my fleet power is still under 500 each..just lost 10 full fleets to 3 borg ships. My fleets in any game seems impossible to fight them and i never finish the mission.

How do you get romulan fleets stronger? with the feds it is a cakewalk and the borg are defeated without a second thought. With romulans i just cant get it done.

i dont know what date the actual crisis starts because ive always won by then. When playing the federation the crisis never really happens because the janeway missions stop it. When playing the romulans i cant complete the janeway missions because my fleets are not capable of beating the borgs hence why i made this thead. I still win as romulans because i win before the crisis happens.
My entire question is how the f do you get the romulans to be strong enough to defeat the borg in the janeway mission line.....i can not seem to do it no matter how many ships i have. they just get wasted.
Im guessing since i have got no advice im either a bad player or the romulans are just not made to beat the borg. idk

No played solo, but when I played as Federation, my buddy played as Romulan and the Borg would have kicked his ass, I had to send a fleet to help his and also prop up his economy. So yeah, without my help he would have died off. Did you try getting any defensive alliances with other races? Maybe if they join in to help you with a fleet here and there you could survive?

Yeah i have a defensive pack with federation who have helped my in early wars against the klingons but they are not helping me with the borg.
I will no doubt survive these early attacks but i can not defeat the borg and eventually the crisis will happen in full blown mode wich has killed my romulans every time because they come in waves and each is several fleets of 20k+ and the romulans do not seem to have the fleet capacity to match that because our ships are UN CANNON like weak.
I hate the way this game picks and chooses cannon. In general im disapointed in the game because it honestly just seems like a TNG movie on PC built for picard and the federation and all other races are a afterthought, especially the romulans that are just patheticlly weak and boned from day one....i mean really our home world explodes and we cant stop it lol

Well unless there is some trick to it we are missing, maybe it's a balance thing. Dev's will have to re-balance it. Like it would be easier if the Borg attacked the Federation as they have the resources to fight the Borg back for many years. Would give the Romulans a chance to get better tech and defences in place.

I think that is the key yeah. Early romulans, before their 3rd ship, can not fight anyone....i lose every battle with them but win the wars with numbers or luck but the ships just suck a**. Im so disapointed in this game in how it does the ships and empires, as a long time star trek fan and star trek war gamer all the way back to the 80s and SFB. The romulans may have been small and out dated in the early years but they was still powerful and feared with thier plasma and cloaking...that this game compleatly makes irrelevant of course.

I was able do defend the first wave of the borg on skipper. I used 4 or 5 fleets with 1 to 1,2k strength and one fleet with the crystal ship with 3,1k strength.
As expected Janeway didn't managed the job and re-appeard on the other end of the universe. There was no chance for her to get back in time. :(

Same situation in 2 different games as Romulans. Both times I quit the game ...

I my opinion Romulans are unplayable due to their crapy ships.

Yeah the romulans really do seem unplayable..in fact i havent played in over a week due to a bug that i cant end a war thats been going on for 10 years.
Beyond that it seems pure luck if you can survive as romulans because if anyone attacks you early on you are doomed because your ships are worthless. Then throw in the borg that are just impossible to beat if janeway cant do the mission and sometimes they still cant be beat if your fleets have been decimated by war when the borg show up. Its just luck if youre a romulan and that is no fun because the game never varries in its stupid story so you have to go throw it every time

In my game play as romulans i defeated the borg in the janeway event the trick i used was 4 fleets with my ships not using the auto best function as i found out it does not always optimize the romulan ships to the best of your tech my advice is to try designing your ships to toughen them up but at the same time choose weapons that fire quick and also damage both shields and hull i hope this helps

As stated before the tier 1 and tier 2 romulan ships are just bad. It's better to use the ships you get from the minors you integrate. This will allow you to reduce the alloys you need. Pick civilian economy at the start to boost your economy. Your best bet is focusing on reasearch to unlock tier 3 ships and new ship comoponents as fast as possible. Aim for a defensive pact early to prevent the AI from attacking you. Make sure to pick "The greatest inheritance" ascension perk (the one that gives you ship weapons damage) early. Delay the Borg related missions as much as possible and start them only just before they time out. Design your ships manually to get the best ships you can have. If you are attacked by priates before you have tier 3 ships, give up the star base and rebuild. Defending the pirates like defending an early war without an ally usually costs more than you would loose if you just surrendered. When you are at 1-2k reasearch per month start focusing on alloys to build your fleets, you will need many of them :) Worked for me twice on Grand Admiral difficulty. Don't get me wrong the romulan fleets are still weaker than anything you would build on any other "nation". But good techs and a large number of fleets built on a good economy with the right traditions will still beat the Borg.

Not directly on topic, but if you fail the Janeway mission, you will get the full Borg invasion later on. On paper, this is a bit more difficult, but by then your fleets should be strong enough by then to beat them.
