Federation- Phasers, Photons
Cardassians- Spiral Wave Phaser
Romulans- Disruptors- Plasma Torpedoes
Klingons- Disruptors- Torpedoes
The Federation and Cardassian beams should be continuous and the Klingon and Romulan disruptors should be individuals bursts.
Then they all need to be balanced around each other. This should have been done long before the game was released.
Sorry to engage super nerd mode, but I must point out something. Yes Federation should be continuous beams, but not always. The Defiant is the main example of pulse phasers. Equally the Klingons have both beams and pulse distrupters, and the Romulans equally have had examples of both. DS9 Way of the Warrior and DS9 Sacrifice of Angels shows this. I cant remember which episode of TNG shows the Romulans using pulse disrupters, but I do seem to recall it.
Also, on the weapon colours, the show has different colours for the Klingons. Older Klingon ships (K-Tingas) still have red beams, but the newer classes have green (See Way of the Warrior). Given this is meant to be TNG based though the devs could just go with green for simplicity, assuming they care.
What surprises me, not just for this issue but others, is I am sure someone said this game "was made by fans for fans" and that the devs have watched and rewatched the Star Trek series repeatedly. If either is true why on earth are there so many stupid errors and issues? They know Star Trek fans nitpick and love things to be right! :-)
In response to the first point in bold: I would say it's more rare to see a Romulan warbird using a continuous beam as seen by the IRW Haakona in TNG's "Contagion", when Riker warns Sub-commander Taris to destroy the Iconian probe. Another scene of warbirds using continuous beams is DS9's "The Die is Cast" where you see the warbirds firing continuous phaser beams onto the already abandoned Founders' Homeworld. But there were several occasions where we see the Romulans using pulse disruptors. You might have remembered the scene in TNG where a Romulan warbird fires disruptors on Admiral Jarok's scout ship in "The Defector" and later in the episode where two warbirds, led by G'Kar I mean Commander Tomalak, open fire on the Enterprise. Then there's the IRW Khazara where we see Taris again ..err Commander Toreth (same actress and race portrayed, but different characters). That warbird uses single disruptor to destroy a Corvallen freighter in "The Face of the Enemy". And there's the Romulan warbird that fires disruptors on the Enterprise in "Timescape".
Responding to the second point in bold: I think the devs have done their homework for the most part in regards to STI. I mean some of the references I get when I play and I see these random minor factions like say the J'Naii from the TNG episode of non-binary, proto-Vulcan lesbians. Or the Idanian Clans and I immediately think of Jadzia Dax's line in DS9 about Idanian Spice Pudding. The Farian Syndicate and I'm thinking of that O'Brien episode on DS9 where he goes undercover on Farius Prime. And now I want an event to pop up with a mission where I send a spy there. I see the Boslic Anarchy and I recall the purple-haired alien smuggler who frequents at Quark from time to time. I just think we as players aren't fully aware of what really goes on behind the scenes. So it's not totally fair to put the blame fully on the developers.
It's weird for me seeing romulans have disruptors and not plasmas.
In the games I played the Feds and tholians used photons, romulans used plasma and klingons used disruptors for their torpedoes.
All the minor races used torpedoes based on the region of space they lived.
The really dumb part of this game is that there is literally no difference between ships in the factions . Every faction can use every torpedo they want making it not really matter who you play since the story is the same pretty much between all the factions.
Does the mod sort out the wrong weapon colours and awful non-Star Trek sound effects (despite the devs having the Star Trek licence), or has some other modder fixed that also?
yes i usually use phasers as a klingon, dumb, your spot on
