This is why I will probably not purchase. I dont get these publishers that put all this work into space 4X titles but completely gloss over the battles. Gal Civ 4 is same thing. Wonderful global game design but battles are a complete afterthought.
The promise of "Grand Strategy" is really bad combat, not sure why these things seem to go hand in hand.
We need the people who made battlestar galactica deadlock, to make a star trek game.. would be amazing.
There was a decent mod for stellaris that made it look better but sadly did not get updated
lol battles in botf may have been 3d but there was hardly any control in them
I'll take hardly any over none any day.
This is also the thing I fear will be the same here in STI. Stellaris combat sucked in 2016 and hasn't been improved in all those years, so if in 2023 Nimble Giant have just copied this mechanic and done nothing to improve it, then that would be a terrible missed opportunity. I am really hoping i'm wrong, but given the lack of reviews and gameplay footage I await to see the feedback from players.
IGN preview they did a few weeks ago already said its the same.
I still (foolishly) hold out hope they have tried to do something innovative and fresh with STI, rather than copy and paste the mechanics from 2016, but all the signs are not.
