This Defiant Sucks!
Okay, not only was the canon Defiant a warship first, it was an overgunned powerhouse meant to destroy the borg.

Why then does it have fewer weapon slots than the Miranda available from game start? This is one of the biggest letdowns I have felt in a while.

You have to go through all kinds of convoluted missions and anomaly saving and un-federation-like warmongering to get through the obnoxious mission tree to unlock the schematics. For what? An awesome small ship with high firepower low shields/hull? NO. Well how about a ship with interesting mechanics like a decaying damage boost because she was said to draw so much power she would fry herself? No. You just get a worse Miranda class vessel. The warship to defeat the borg has half the weapon slots of your game start corvette.

I want to spit.

All the ship choices are lame in this game and hidden behind a timed mechanic.
I'm used to playing SFB that literally has hundreds of ship hulls and variants for every faction .
I know this game is mostly just TNG story online but even in TNG there were lots of different ships and variants.

There is a mod here on Workshop that fixes this issue with the Defiant, and another that gives us the Excelsior from the start.

It really shouldn't be down to mods to get this right - but at this point they are the solution.

I feel like what we should have in game (based on game timeline) should be Lakota refit of Excelsior - if they wanted just cruiser fitting fleet we have it should have been Akira.
And ofc i agree that Defiant right now is let down - they should make it cost 2/3 times the miranda cost and give it maybe in build pulse phaser cannon worth that ship =D

One thing Defiant has going for it ishalf the fleet point use of the Miranda. I guess it is faster too.

Yes, but that just reinforces my point that the developers seem to have very little grasp of the universe.

Defiant class ships were not meant for mass production, they were unique, powerful vessels. Ugh, just so disappointing.

They were meant for mass production, in fact it was specifically a point made by Sisko that they were designed to fight The Borg.

And they're not underpowered, they're absurdly good because of their evasion and manoeuvrability.

Only the Defiant with it's plot armor. Remember the Valiant which was destroyed by a single Dominion warship.

USS Valiant - 128 metres long
Dominion battleship - 1284 metres long. about the same wide.

the defiant class was a strong ship, but not when run by suicidal cadets.

you can redesign it in ship design, really your weapon research suxs

Agreed. That ship was a big chunk of Dominion resources, the Valiant wasn't meant to solo something like that, rather swarm it, or act in a team to open up its shields so a ship like a Galaxy of Sovereign could killing blow it.

Defiant class ships were meant for mass production, they were meant to fight in wolfpacks, a single Defiant is not enough to defeat a borg cube or sphere, they were meant as a supplement to the fleet as a way to actually punch through their armor while the bigger ships took hits.
Coryak Oct 29, 2023 @ 8:10pm
The Defiant does, in fact, not suck.

I'm in the year 2411 right now and a fleet of 170 Defiants - yes, they only take 1 command power each - has a combat power of 75.000! My other fleets consisting of something of everything only get to ~40k right now.

Completely agree last dev post they said we hope we can put in the Brel class Klingon ship into the game, we have the Brel class in the game, the dev’s don’t seem to know much about Star Trek as they claim and they seem really inexperience.
