Absolutely none of it makes sense. I understand they're trying to stagger the levels of these ships but it's even more damning that you get the intrepid class before an excelsior class.

I understand they need different categories of ships but it's a little egregious. I feel like the early ships should have just been a ship from that era, and maybe you could change the skin from Miranda to Constitution or whatever.

I'm just gonna put myself in the minds of the devs and say, "because it's a smaller ship". Though I think Worf would not agree.

The Defiant didn't have that many weapon slots, it had a pair of pulse phasers and a torpedo bay. I think it's a balancing issue though, Defiant class is already completely overpowered due to how fast it can move.

We did see it use a phaser array once on the alternative universe Defiant I guess.

The Defiant in "our" universe used phasers too during its battle with the U.S.S. Lakota.

The Defiant only has ship size 1 - the Miranda has 2. And the Defiant is almost as good as the Miranda, so balance wise it makes sense.

Generally, I think the setting should've been changed. Instead of in the 2340s, we should've started in the 2280s. The Cardassians would've started as a civilian-led government, with the mission tree allowing them to go full military dictatorship and later annex Bajor. Klingons would have the Undiscovered Country-arc. Romulans can do the Khitomer-thing.

Now, the Federation starts with only Mirandas and, yes, one Excelsior - THE Exclelsior. You then have an extended Enterprise focus tree where you can first "build" the Excelsior-class Enterprise, unlocking the Excelsior - as a Destroyer - in general - and some missions to upgrade it to Ambassador-class, Galaxy-class and Sovereign-class, each unlocking their corresponding ship classes. We don't do Intrepid at all here. The other faction ships are unlocked via Research (if you don't play federation) or at the same time the federation is doing their events.

Corresponding ship types would be:
Miranda - Bird of Prey - Ferrax - Hideki
Excelsior - Ktinga - Vindius - Kazikai
Ambassador - K'Vort - D'Deridex - Galor
Galaxy - Vor'Cha - Valdore - Keldon
Sovereign - Negh'Var - Scimitar - Nokoram

This is obviously not entirely accurate when it comes to ship strength, but it would stay more true to the canon development.

The galaxy map would have to be much, much larger and the four major factions start with fewer colonies, so the game isn't over after 50 years. I would also make sure that the species that are part of the federation in the 24th century are somewhat near the federation as minor bowers - Betazoids, Bolians, Trill and Ktarians.

I think that would make trekkies a bit more happy and lead to a more fun game long term.

Pulse phasers, but yeah I think i remember the Defiant using it during that fight too. It's strange because they never used it otherwise.

For sure. Yeah, that battle sequence started with the Defiant firing an arc of standard beam phasers followed by a series of pulse phasers and a photon torpedo.

Its just funny that defiant class cant out dmg miranda when miranda is like oldest ship in the fleet. But its no suprise in some way as in this game no weapons looks and sound how they should.
