Empire spread is a pain in the butt. Upkeep for everything that comes under spread needs tinkering too. The whole circle of resource economics for (most tbh but..) Klingons is rubbish.

Its not impossible but the randomness of planets in stellaris, i mean star treks (chuckles as blatantly as the copy and pasting..) star map means if you roll "Lucky" with lots of industry systems nearby, you bottleneck energy, minerals and others way too easily and quickly.

Just about everyone goes over cap playing.. this game.. but here the spread really hurts playing as Klingons.

Slight tangent but the raider fleets ripping apart your empire one by one really hurts too. If your struggling and lose an energy planet or mineral world, may as well hit new game. In my last play through i even wiped out their system and they still randomly hit my empire from every side, given i had surrounded the Federation and Romulan`s, you can imagine how impossible that is to defend with the fleets you can actually afford.

Back on to the OPs point, even the leaders cost is perplexing. As Klingons, early on if you hit an energy negative and your scientists start dying off, may as well just rage quit at that point cos it takes ages to sort your economy out and by then, it could be up to a decade before you can afford a new scientist.

The devs clearly did not play test this game at all. I refuse to believe it. The fan boys need to pack it in defending this, even the devs owned up about the issues.

Saying that, at least the devs seem to care and we might see some good changes in the near future. Hopefully they start with the start date...

Yeah it's much harder to get a good energy economy as Klingons than as the Federation. Your research will also be worse, as your focus will mostly be on Unity producing buildings instead.

I recommend you use this Unity advantage and take things which improve your economy through that, and also you're going to have to rely on your spies to steal technology for you a lot.

In my experience, you just need to accept that the Klingon economy is going to be a hot mess. It has to be because you get so many buffs to your military that when you can field multiple full fleets, nothing can stop you. So the only thing stopping you from rolling over the other factions is your economy.

Use spies to steal energy & technology from the other factions. Also fight lots of humiliation wars against your neighbors because you can get research points and even entire free technology from studying their wreckage.

How are you to paint the map red and win military victory as Klingon with that spread thing? I am at the beginning playing as Klingon and have only conquered one minor and is already above limit in spread AND my first perk was the one that gives 100 admin bonus and I have built admin buildings on most of my planets.

Bad end to a fun game

Administration Buildings increase spread steadily. Build a few and you should be fine soon. Maybe even before the invasion starts. Its the "+" and then the first building in the list i think.

Every city in my massive Empire, that cover half the map game had one........also use the opportunity to build mines if the area has 4k or above energy, you have to pay for those durn buildings

2 starting planets dont fall under the collection range of the first startbase, so you are losing trade value at the start of the game.

just close all warrior jobs, they only drain your economy at the start of the game and provide 0 stability.

Federation is pretty easy.

Klingon's are pretty difficult to get set up, but I always did seem to have a ♥♥♥♥ ton of deuterium that became the backbone of my economy. Also with research - it's important to get that civic that lets Follower of Kahless do your research.

Klingon economy was really, really rough. Especially if you use automation, it seems to be in love with volcanic shrines and hunting grounds when a commodity building and a war academy would fix the problem. You definitely need to micro the planets a little early on, and use governors and decisions to get the ball rolling. One of the easiest things to get pumping also seems to be minerals and alloys, so selling that and deuterium should help.
It is not so bad if you terraform to 100 and then focus a few energy worlds, I was able to get energy to +1k, the trick is making sure that you have enough administration

Energy generators cost 2 energy upkeep, but yield 5, netting you 3 which is basically free energy.

i dont think your method is reliable, unless your playing a different game with mod, you need terraforming tech, i have NEVER had that tech come up, even when i had 32o tech per tick......about adm, i build that adm buildin in almost Every city .......wouldnt that be what you mean?

i actually found a much better answer i think, 3 energy is chicken feed when your short 290.
build lots of star bases and solar panel twice each one.........solar panel is 10 each energy.....even if upkeep is say 5, i forget, thats 15 net, quite a haul
