Why can't we get even a half-way decent Star Trek Game?
Am I the only one who is literally crying out for a good Star Trek game? We've not seen an actually mid-way decent game since Armada 3, a bunch of people modding on ModDB manage to put out better content than Triple A studios, this IP is languishing without a seriously decent videogame behind it outside of STO.

How hard can it be in this day and age to do a "Star Trek meets Mass Effect"? Or what I had been reluctant to expect this game to have been (A decent 4X). It just really feels like the only way to enjoy a Star Trek experience is to get back into STO or go hunting online for the old ass games which are finnicky as ♥♥♥♥ on modern systems.

EDIT:/ Alright guys seems most people are missing my point so let me point this out here rather than write it 4 times in comments.

I am well aware there are great mods out there for this IP. If anything you're proving my point which is "Why is it Triple A studios cannot put out a good Star Trek game but somehow a bunch of modders in their basements can?". I've played a lot of the mods you guys have suggested and DO agree they're brilliant. But that's not the topic at hand.

Second Edit:// People keep pointing out Resurgence, despite me already pointing out I wasn't counting it, let me explain why. I am not counting it because it's on the Epic Games Store and I, on a personal level, refuse to support EGS with a penny of my money or a kb of my hardware. If you want to that's fine, but I won't buy games on their platform ever, if Resurgence makes it to Steam I will consider buying it.
I have already played Resurgence with a flag flying high, it was alright and had some very interesting writing, it was definitely cut from the Tell Tale cloth, but I feel it was far too unrefined and janky. I will also point out that it's only realistically good for a single afternoon of playing, I know the storyline, I know the major beats, all I'll get is a slightly different ending or w.e. I am more interested in a game I could play across weeks and months.

I think it is a toss up for me if the best Star Trek game is Starfleet Command II, or The new Horizon mod for Stellaris. It is a shame that good Star Trek games are hard to come by, I had high hopes for this one

NGL I didn't the second I saw Paradox behind it, with their track record as of late and propensity to focus their efforts on how they can monetise the ♥♥♥♥ out of a game I had a feeling this would have next to no basegame content and would then make us pay later down the line for any of the cool races we'd want and so they can flog a ton of DLC. I wouldn't mind so much if the contents of this game was worth paying the full price tag for.

It feels like they just rushed this and did the bare minimal to get it out the door. It feels like an alpha build. I don't know wither to blame Paradox, or the bad dev that Paradox chose to rush this out. Sad thing is it seems like it would have been so easy to make a good Star Trek game out of Stellaris; it just feels like they didn't even try. New Horizons mod is miles ahead of this game, and you can tell those modders are dedicated trekkies

I have a joke which this game inspired;

"Is 'Being put on the Star Trek Game' the game development studio's equivalent to timeout for a naughty employee? All the games feel like the devs were tortured to do it."

It seems crazy that such a beloved, long running and expansive series cannot get a studio with some passionate trekkie nerds who'd cream their panties from black to white to get their hands on the IP. I mean we know STO has won awards and actually does good ♥♥♥♥ with their handle on the series, so why can't any other game?

Personally I had a blast with the game, only problem I would give it was not enough for each station to do something and not enough missions. Outside of that it was a really fun game to play with random people while solving problems.

This game has some real potential but has too many broken things or bugs. I think it is also has been released too soon.

You're thinking of Star Trek Bridge Crew. Bridge Commander was one of the old Activision Star Trek games from the early 2000's that's often regarded as the best Star Trek game for space combat. It's on gog if you ever want to buy it and check it out yourself.

It is halfway decent. Halfway. Just look at the art for the NPCs and ships.

The whole game is a platform to make better Star Trek mods.

That said, it's disappointing they didn't put more effort in.

Bridge Commander from 2002 I think? One of the best Star Trek games ever, if a bit short. There are mods to bring it up to today's standards in terms of visuals you should def. give it a go.

Still waiting for GOG to get Bridge Commander and Klingon Academy....

In the meantime, Armada 2 is still pretty damned good.

It's like a good old TNG episode.

Star Trek Infinite is a strategy game, not an adventure or a mmo-game. So, if you want to compare STI with an other game, than you have to do it with BotF from 1999. That was great to that time, it made so much fun like STI, but it was buggy and in the late gamy laggy. You can not STI compare with STO, Armada II, Bridge Commander or Resurgence.

STI is a good game, it has some bugs, which have to be fixed and it needs more content. But that is all.
