It's reaching the point where it isn't gonna be fit for purpose soon as people expect higher res textures and effects than they did almost 8 years ago. Stellaris for example, if you zoom in to the ships, has hilariously low-res textures.
As far i can tell the map seems a lot smaller and fleets also smaller, so maybe the endgame is a lot smaller and more capable fo the engines.
Does anyone else see how bonkers this idea is?
Meanwhile, this Star Trek reskin has not been in development nearly half as long. They simply have not had the time to properly update things. Software development is a slow process, especially when you're updating old systems and trying not to break things.
Stellaris has to build on the previous. This gets to basically do a space 4x 'do over' and start from scratch on what makes it in and how and I'm curious to see what they do with it.
