This works the same way if you're crushing on both, or friends with both, or one is a crush and the other is a best friend. Having someone be your best friend is just to change the narration so your MC automatically likes one character the most, without having to force the other character into being just a neighbor. That's why it's impossible to have both leads be your best friend, since the purpose of having a best friend is to make one more important than the other.
If Qiu and Tamarack are both your favorite than you just don't have to choose one as your very best friend.
Of course, it's only for occasional automatic lines about your MC's opinions/feelings and it makes some extra choice options available. Having a best friend will never force you into spending more time with that character. You still get to choose what you do.
