Cant put items into the Quick Bar?

Just got the game lastnight so there very well could be something I am just not doing right but I cant seem to put things in to my wuick bar. How do I do this? I have tried several things including dragging and dropping.

Dragging and dropping is how you add to it. What're you trying to add?

Weapons. Bats Axe's etc...

Basically all of the weapons must be equipped to use, that's why you can't hotbar them.

So the only way to switch to a third weapon is to open my inventory and equip it that way?
