Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 Mod
Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 Mod

This Mod is from:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/ja2-113-mod

The Jagged Alliance 2 "1.13 Mod" is an engine modification to the original JA2. Among many other changes, the AI has been vastly improved, a new difficulty level, windowed mode, support for resolutions up to 1024x768, a New Inventory system, and much of the data has been externalized. The mod does not change the original maps or storyline.

Key features can be read by going to the homepage wiki, but here is a rundown:

AI: They'll out flank you, and climb the rooftops to come after you or to kill you from a distance with Sniper Rifles.

Externalized Data: Enemy patrols, Movement costs, shopkeepers, army compositions, garrisons, and more has been externalized. The major feature here, is item externalization. The original game was limited to 350 different items, that cap has been removed and all item data has been externalized. Now, there are over 1000 different items in the game, and many of those are weapons.

JA2_Options.ini: The options file for the non-modder (Current release also includes an INI editor to simplify things even further). This file contains options to control many different aspects of gameplay and speacial features. Here, you set how many IMP's you're allowed to hire, whether or not AIM Mercs die while on assignment elsewhere, the detail level of enemy soldier information available to you, how fast militia are trained, whether or not you can train them to move about freely, and how often you want to experience weather in the game. For a complete list, you'll have to check out the ini file.

New Inventory System: The New Inventory System uses LBE's (Load Bearing Equipment) to expand and change your merc's Inventory. Standard equipment slots now include a Gun Sling, and a Knife pocket in addition to the normal Armor and Face Item Slots. All other equipment slots depend on various different vests, thigh rigs, and backpacks that you can pickup or buy. The system may seem complicated at first, but many visual indicators help you to know where you can and can't put your gear. The new inventory system allows you to carry a wider variety of equipment, but in some cases less quantity than the original inventory system. The original 12-slot inventory is still available, and you can choose between both systems when starting a new game.

Bobby Ray's: Bobby Ray's now has many different filters and sorting options, and there are 4 levels of gear you can choose from when you start a new game, they range from Normal to Awsome level where all items are available at BR's from the beginning. A great way to try out those hard to find favorite weapons.

Other features include:

- Weather effects, rain messes with your aim, and Lightning can reveal your position in nighttime combat!
- Full Auto-Fire in addition to Burst and single shot weapons.
- Chance To Hit indicator above the targeting cursor.
- NEW M.E.R.C. Mercs from UB (Unfinished Business)
- Roaming Militia Patrols.
- Give orders to Militia during Tactical Combat!!
- Vehicles have inventories.
- Increased number of possible Tilesets to 255, UB Tileset pack downloadable as an option for Modders.
- New Map Editor supports the externalized Items and expanded tilesets.
-UB style IMP generation, No more questionaire for pseudo-random abilities.
- Grenade launchers with Burst capability.
- Items (typically armor) that give Camoflauge bonus.
- Capability of readying a weapon without firing it (Raise the weapon one turn, save a few AP on the next when you fire at your target, and also take advantage of Sniper Scope vision range increase)
- IMP Files are now stored by name, and instead of using XEP624 or 90210, you can type in the nickname of a previously created merc, and automatically have him added to your team!
- Tool tips have been added to give important information about items without having to right-click on them to see the details. You can even get information on equipment the enemy is carrying!
- Added a number of new ammo types and explosion types such as tracer ammo, and explosions that cause spreading fire.
- Soundmanager now supports MP3 and OGG sound formats

A fabulous mod to an already great game. The combo is arguably the best tactical combat game ever.

Listen to this dude, Lazaren, if you like the game already. You even get all the JA 1 guys thrown in as recruitables in v1.13, which to fans of the games, is reason enough to enjoy both JA1 and JA2 characters in one more modern game.

This mod is supremely customizeable, so you can make it like you want. It has arguably better A.I. and more complete features, but it is all in the theme of the original.

They also have their own direct website, which I personally would recommend over ModDB. Just google it, it should be:

http://ja2v113.pbworks.com/w/page/4218339/FrontPage

Never had any problem with their downloads and there is a ton of info to digest there, well worth reading.

So, in theory, I could import Weasel ? I suspect his voice files are missing from the mod? But for some reason, he had the funniest lines between JA, and JA:DG. Especially when he was shot full of holes, or finding booby traps.

@ Twigleaf

-- Weasel's voice files did work, they all do in v1.13 mod

I do have Weasel offered to me in my current game. I think I even used him a bit, his voice was cool actually, I never had him before. I believe the sound files do work in v1.13. I know Tex and Beth worked, which cracked me up considerably. And all the DG guys are in there also.

The only difference is that their icons look a tad better, as they were designed to work in the resolution of JA2. The Stats may vary slightly from how they were in the original games, but you can customize that also if you really want to go a bit deeper in the files (they do explain how to do that either on their website or you can go to Jagged Alliance Galaxy and find out more there).

The other thing is that you recruit them differently, there are options for that. I think I set them up to be recruitable via M.E.R.C. -- which I set up so that not every single one was available until I had purchased a few for them and M.E.R.C. was doing okay financially. But you don't have to do it that way.

See, the v1.13 mod purposefully took almost everything that could be modded and separated all those things out to either html files or text files. So you can modify everything yourself. Want the enemy to have more enemies, but spawn less as you expand, you can control that (and tons more). Want to change stats on characters, you can do that also. Want to be able to grab the stuff that is actually used on that dead enemy when he dies, you can do that. Or you can set it so that you get only what is part of the normal drop routine. Want Billy Ray's Online Store to have tons of stuff right away -- you can set that up, or want to make it so he only has very little stuff and takes longer to get it, you can do that also.

It's really the ultimate mod for JA2, and since it includes all the DG and JA1 people, it really is the best possible mix.

COOL V1.13 THING: You can even have ROAMING MILITIA LIKE IN JA1 if you want

It's another cool option they allow in v1.13. What the dead to possibly spawn zombies, you got it. I mean seriously check out all the pages of that website, it is so customizeable it isn't funny, well I mean it is funny, well you know what I mean :)

Does this game with this 1.13 mod run on windows 10?

I have the gog version and ran slow as gravy, after trying to install the mod - i just got a blank screen on load with music. Just wondering if the Steam versionis any easier to get working so it plays normally.

I Didnt tried it myself on win 10 yet. Seems there needs to be something done before it works.

I have the GOG version and the following is how I got it to work:

1) do a complete uninstall

2) reinstall JA2 to a folder that is not part of Program Files

3) Go to http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/wined3d

Download wined3d version v1.1.38 /24-Jun-2013 20:02, make sure you get the right version

4) DO NOT RUN THIS FILE. It is an .exe but DO NOT RUN IT. If you run it you could bork your windows install. DO NOT RUN THIS FILE.

5) Use Winzip or 7zip to open the file. DO NOT RUN THE FILE!

6) In the archive of wind3d, navigate to $SYSDIR folder (make sure you are in the right folder, the files you need are in $SYSDIR but they also exist in other folders. You want the files from $SYSDIR)

7) Extract ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll to your JA2 folder

8) Launch JA2 to make sure it runs (It should)

9) Install 1.13

The game should run just fine now. There are some occasional bugs and crashes, so make sure you save often.

DO NOT RUN the wined3d.exe file!

There are some persistent CTD bugs in 1.13, especially in the LBE and attachments. For instance, if you have a LAM and you try to install the ISV module you will get a warning that will very likely cause a CTD. There are enough CTDs that you want to save often. Very often.

Also, I highly recommend either skipping the NCTH (New Chance to Hit) or modifying the .ini to make it more friendly.

If you want to go ahead and try the NCTH with more friendly settings, I can recommend the following:

In CTHConstants.ini

BASE_EXP = 1.0
BASE_MARKS = 4.0
BASE_WIS = 1.0
BASE_DEX = 4.0

BASE_STANDING_STANCE = 2.0
BASE_CROUCHING_STANCE = 2.5
BASE_PRONE_STANCE = 3.0

AIM_EXP = 1.0
AIM_MARKS = 8.0
AIM_WIS = 2.0
AIM_DEX = 1.0

AIM_DRAW_COST = 0.5
AIM_STANDING_STANCE = 1.5
AIM_CROUCHING_STANCE = 1.0
AIM_PRONE_STANCE = 0.5

Hi,

Have I read it right that you can't specifically target head or legs with the new chance to hit functionality? Seems a bit odd, are head/leg shots just random? What use is a highly accurate gun/merc if you can't shoot someone in the head?

That's not true. You can shoot at the head, the legs or the torso.

i tried myself on win 10 seems to be some troubles. i tried without and with 1.13 patch and got several errors. After like 10 different tries with different settings i finaly made the game start without error but end up crashing after intro now :D.
even turning off the intro or windowed mode didnt help to stop crash after starting game.
Wildfire seems still to run on win 10.
Gold i didnt got to run it without crashing no matter what i tried. Maybe i try more later some day^^

thanks. Haven't had a chance to check myself yet, spent about 3 hours reading through all the settings and tweaking the ini then couldn't face sitting and creating a character after that.

Thanks for those CTHConstants.ini suggestions also, I'll give it a go without them first (on paper it seems a good idea for exp to contribute to base chance to hit - maybe frustrating in practice though) then if it's not much fun I will apply those. You're good people.

I found the base settings just too unforgiving. I had Scope (99 marksmanship) standing right next to a prone enemy and she missed 3 times with a FN Five Seven. Over and over and over again. I outfitted her with a Parker-Hale and she missed probably 90% of the time. It was a lot more effective to use CQB, which is not how I like to roll.

Snipers still misses a lot for my taste. There's no reason a shooter with 90+ marksmanship sporting a modern sniper rifle with attachments should miss 6-7 times out of 10 shots at medium range. Pisotls and SMG's do a lot better, but you have to be close. AR's are reasonable.

3 round burst is the most effective use of ammunition with those settings.

In 1.13 there's a compatibility file and instructions for running in windows 10 in the /docs/ folder.
I'm playing on windows 10 right now thanks to it.
