Listen to this dude, Lazaren, if you like the game already. You even get all the JA 1 guys thrown in as recruitables in v1.13, which to fans of the games, is reason enough to enjoy both JA1 and JA2 characters in one more modern game.
This mod is supremely customizeable, so you can make it like you want. It has arguably better A.I. and more complete features, but it is all in the theme of the original.
They also have their own direct website, which I personally would recommend over ModDB. Just google it, it should be:
http://ja2v113.pbworks.com/w/page/4218339/FrontPage
Never had any problem with their downloads and there is a ton of info to digest there, well worth reading.
-- Weasel's voice files did work, they all do in v1.13 mod
I do have Weasel offered to me in my current game. I think I even used him a bit, his voice was cool actually, I never had him before. I believe the sound files do work in v1.13. I know Tex and Beth worked, which cracked me up considerably. And all the DG guys are in there also.
The only difference is that their icons look a tad better, as they were designed to work in the resolution of JA2. The Stats may vary slightly from how they were in the original games, but you can customize that also if you really want to go a bit deeper in the files (they do explain how to do that either on their website or you can go to Jagged Alliance Galaxy and find out more there).
The other thing is that you recruit them differently, there are options for that. I think I set them up to be recruitable via M.E.R.C. -- which I set up so that not every single one was available until I had purchased a few for them and M.E.R.C. was doing okay financially. But you don't have to do it that way.
See, the v1.13 mod purposefully took almost everything that could be modded and separated all those things out to either html files or text files. So you can modify everything yourself. Want the enemy to have more enemies, but spawn less as you expand, you can control that (and tons more). Want to change stats on characters, you can do that also. Want to be able to grab the stuff that is actually used on that dead enemy when he dies, you can do that. Or you can set it so that you get only what is part of the normal drop routine. Want Billy Ray's Online Store to have tons of stuff right away -- you can set that up, or want to make it so he only has very little stuff and takes longer to get it, you can do that also.
It's really the ultimate mod for JA2, and since it includes all the DG and JA1 people, it really is the best possible mix.
COOL V1.13 THING: You can even have ROAMING MILITIA LIKE IN JA1 if you want
It's another cool option they allow in v1.13. What the dead to possibly spawn zombies, you got it. I mean seriously check out all the pages of that website, it is so customizeable it isn't funny, well I mean it is funny, well you know what I mean :)
I have the gog version and ran slow as gravy, after trying to install the mod - i just got a blank screen on load with music. Just wondering if the Steam versionis any easier to get working so it plays normally.
Check this guide for win 10 compatiblity.

I have the GOG version and the following is how I got it to work:
1) do a complete uninstall
2) reinstall JA2 to a folder that is not part of Program Files
3) Go to http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/wined3d
Download wined3d version v1.1.38 /24-Jun-2013 20:02, make sure you get the right version
4) DO NOT RUN THIS FILE. It is an .exe but DO NOT RUN IT. If you run it you could bork your windows install. DO NOT RUN THIS FILE.
5) Use Winzip or 7zip to open the file. DO NOT RUN THE FILE!
6) In the archive of wind3d, navigate to $SYSDIR folder (make sure you are in the right folder, the files you need are in $SYSDIR but they also exist in other folders. You want the files from $SYSDIR)
7) Extract ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll to your JA2 folder
8) Launch JA2 to make sure it runs (It should)
9) Install 1.13
The game should run just fine now. There are some occasional bugs and crashes, so make sure you save often.
DO NOT RUN the wined3d.exe file!
Also, I highly recommend either skipping the NCTH (New Chance to Hit) or modifying the .ini to make it more friendly.
If you want to go ahead and try the NCTH with more friendly settings, I can recommend the following:
In CTHConstants.ini
BASE_EXP = 1.0
BASE_MARKS = 4.0
BASE_WIS = 1.0
BASE_DEX = 4.0
BASE_STANDING_STANCE = 2.0
BASE_CROUCHING_STANCE = 2.5
BASE_PRONE_STANCE = 3.0
AIM_EXP = 1.0
AIM_MARKS = 8.0
AIM_WIS = 2.0
AIM_DEX = 1.0
AIM_DRAW_COST = 0.5
AIM_STANDING_STANCE = 1.5
AIM_CROUCHING_STANCE = 1.0
AIM_PRONE_STANCE = 0.5
Have I read it right that you can't specifically target head or legs with the new chance to hit functionality? Seems a bit odd, are head/leg shots just random? What use is a highly accurate gun/merc if you can't shoot someone in the head?
That's not true. You can shoot at the head, the legs or the torso.
even turning off the intro or windowed mode didnt help to stop crash after starting game.
Wildfire seems still to run on win 10.
Gold i didnt got to run it without crashing no matter what i tried. Maybe i try more later some day^^
thanks. Haven't had a chance to check myself yet, spent about 3 hours reading through all the settings and tweaking the ini then couldn't face sitting and creating a character after that.
Thanks for those CTHConstants.ini suggestions also, I'll give it a go without them first (on paper it seems a good idea for exp to contribute to base chance to hit - maybe frustrating in practice though) then if it's not much fun I will apply those. You're good people.
Snipers still misses a lot for my taste. There's no reason a shooter with 90+ marksmanship sporting a modern sniper rifle with attachments should miss 6-7 times out of 10 shots at medium range. Pisotls and SMG's do a lot better, but you have to be close. AR's are reasonable.
3 round burst is the most effective use of ammunition with those settings.
Sorry you didn't have any luck.
I'm playing on windows 10 right now thanks to it.
