Jagged Alliance 2

Stealth through the entire game?
Hi guys !!

Just wondering - would it be possible to play through the entire game using stealth? Well..mostly stealth..I don't mind when things go tits up and all hell breaks loose, but I do like the option to approach almost all of the missions with a stealthy approach.

Is stealth a viable option in this game?

TIA

Yes. The game is very friendly to stealth play.

You can build your personal merc for stealth and there are quite good covert ops specialists for hirre. There are good quality visibility and hearing rules that are not hard to work with and still provide a good challenge.

You can scout maps at night with a couple of mercs with silenced weapons and throwing knives that pick off stragglers then lure the main groups into a kill zone set up by your auto and rifle specialists, or you can send a stealth only squad to fight.

Buidling for it takes a little time to get good at, but the covert ops specialists are ready to rock when they land.

Get JA2 1.13 from http://ja2v113.pbworks.com/w/page/4218339/FrontPage and install it. It gives you the most freedom to push stealth (as well as any other style of play you want).

EDIT: There will be instances when you can't take advantage of stealth. It won't matter too much. One such instance is the Drassen Counterattack that is optional (off by default, needs to be manually enabled via the config editor in 1.13) and you won't be sneaking around then, but if it should happen at night, your stealth mercs will have a nice vision advantage.

There are roaming troops and if you sit around too long in the same sector, they will eventually attacks. To avoid that so you can take advantage of night ops you'll have to plan accordingly. Avoiding daytime fighting isn't really difficulat most of the time though.

Glad to be of service. I can't recommend this game enough. If you don't mind the dated visuals, there's a LOT of value in JA2. I don't think you can get a better game for 10 bucks.

You should check it out on GOG though, you have more flexibility with installs and mod installs.
I presently have 3 seperate installs under one master folder. One is a fresh clean vanilla install, one is my main gameplay folder with the 1.13 and the other is a "test" install for tweaking various things to my liking. It's a fight to do that in Steam. With GOG it's just changing the name of the install folder.

Hit me up if I can help more.
