Subverse is a REALLY crappy game but the studio is known to make great videos.
I'd say this game is pretty good for what it is but also not the best. But my reasons differ from yours.
You seem to complain about wanting to put the game away after post nut clarity. I guess you can see this game as a test of survival on your horniness.
I haven't tried Subverse myself yet, but I've read the negative reviews. But I'm skeptical, because majority of the people who complained about that game sounded like they were unhappy because of the existence of a worldbuilding and storytelling in an eroge, which sounds like the kind of very low-level thinking done by people who don't have too much of a brain. But I have yet to try that game out and make my own judgments.
I mean more or less something like that, but a good game can still have a reason to make you continue playing after the post-nut clarity.
Just try the game out to see why it is so negatively reviewed. It's a great ANIMATION studio. But it's their very first attempt in the game dev department. Imagine a small collection of 10 second shorts compiled into a database room that you unlock via only TWO types of repetitive game levels. An asteroid shooter and a "tactical" ground battle.
The world building and storytelling is so crap and just full of attempts of trying to be funny. But I guess some of it might amuse people who are British since some of references are Brit based.
If you want a good game to play past post nut clarity, Last Evil is pretty good.
Subverse is like playing the same level of Tetris over and over again. Only to get a few scenes. As a comparison, Treasure of Nadia has like over 10-20 times more scenes than Subverse. And if you care about story so much, many other titles in the eroge category does a better job at worldbuilding. Karryn's prison is way more followable than the mess that is Subverse. That's also why they had to replace the game direction lead in Subverse. You can read that in their forums.
Tbh, I've seen no eroge that blew my mind in terms of gameplay yet, this game included. It's pretty stereotypical of an eroge. I've infact seen eroge with better gameplay than this too, and they are also combat and RPG oriented. Heck, one of them only uses the default RPGmaker engine stuff as it's combat mechanics, yet it still felt more enjoyable and satisfying compared to this, even though this game is so heavily modified too. Uniqueness doesn't always mean better. Despite this, people were swooning over this game as if Subverse was promising so much, but this game suddenly came along and delivered all of them as the definitive Subverse crusher-the game that promised the "kamige". I'd say people who genuinely thought that didn't play an actual good eroge yet.
The reason why I said those things about world building and story of Subverse is because I've seen that there actually were people in reviews who were upset that an eroge had a story or worldbuilding in the first place, rather than criticising the quality of it. I'm gonna judge the story of that game for myself. But if you guys indeed turn out wrong, I'm about to rip a 3rd hole in those asses. You know this game has a story that barely qualifies as a story right? What makes this game the crusher of a so-called hypothetical god of eroges? This game is nothing special both combat-wise, and story-wise. There's no need to get over their heads, people like those should play an actual good eroge to broaden their horizons.
But adult games... I buy them for porn first, the rest second. Stories can come from books or movies. There's really only like 1% of adult games on steam that I would rate highly. The rest are crappy. RPG Makers are crappy but Karryns Prison is pretty good for an RPG Maker game. It being an RPG Maker game does mean it's capped at how could it can be and wouldn't surpass other titles that use 3D or non-rpgmaker 2d action sprites.
Right now, if you want my opinion on what the best porn game is, it's: SWORD x HIME.
It's actually a very terrible game. But it's got an easy access gallery with TONs of content with tons of different enemy models.
The dev also had real life issues and decided to still work for the playerbase with 2 hours of sleep per day. Right now, the gallery mode content is fantastic but the "Game" is still ignoreable.
I'm giving that dev free advertisement.
It's also on sale too for like $5.
SWORD x HIME
you mentioned subverse and evenicle, i play those game. but they are not "porn game" for me.
because the gameplay and "porn" its separated. and karryn prison its first game that i call the real "porn game" because the porn is the gameplay. you know what i mean right
not like subverse you must play kinda turn based thing and watch a porn, and i believe evenicle is same (I forgot because I haven't played it in a long time)
sorry for my bad english.
and yeah karryn is best eroge, for now
I think what you are describing is just one sub-style of "porn games". Porn games or eroge aren't comprised only of that style. There are many other styles that fall in the eroge category.
I personally find it hard to fap towards NSFW in general because I've gotten used to the environment and I tend to laugh a lot at some of the reactions Karryn shows.
It is 100% possible to complete the story by not committing any sexual acts, sexual acts done to Karryn, and not earning Corrupt points at the same time.
Sounds like a you problem if you need to constantly fap at every sex scene.
My question to you is:
Have you tried any of the side games and how far have you progressed?
You are telling me that, essentially, you enjoy this game for not it's porn but for it's story then? I don't see how that's my problem tbh, because this game's story honestly sucks. The laughter element is cool on the first encounter, but you get used to same lines every battle too.
I've seen both of the side jobs, trying to clear 3rd floor currently, and seems like I'm stuck there. It has been long and the game has lost it's charm for me.
Subverse is like 10x worse than this game. It has a huge disconnect in terms of story telling. The story is mainly just penis jokes and breast jokes. It is essentially two minigames being repeated a hundred times to unlock a gallery. Again, the studio is known for it's high quality 3d visuals. But it's just better to load up porn videos of the game rather than go through the same 2 minigames over and over. Imagine the Bar Sidejob in Karryn's prison but having to do that 100 times just to get credits to unlock all scenes in the gallery.
You would probably be into those visual novel games or the one that has a DND element to it. Alot of RPG Maker games are also just story driven games. Dating sims probably falls into this too. They aren't my cup of tea because stories that I do care about are science fiction topics like time travel and what not. NSFW stories are kind of like the acting in porn vids, I rather just skip it.
Karryn's prison is cool because it has a sex route and a combat route which plays differently. But I also don't rank this game as "the best" BECAUSE it's diving into storytelling territory. Alot of soliloquying about what's going in every scene. I play NSFW games for NSFW visuals. Rankings on NSFW for me are based on the quality, quantity, and creativity of NSFW content. NSFW games cannot compete with SFW games on anything else because they are up against big companies with huge budgets or highly talented indie companies whose resources aren't sapped by injecting NSFW content. Any dev that wants to make an amazing story game or an amazing mechanics game will not cut into their profits by releasing it as a NSFW.
I enjoy this game for its Tactical-RPG element (character building, fighting, min/max, collecting passives, stats), turn-based game, soundtrack, and management elements. The story is very linear and not a wow-factor of the game. I don't think that is even something the developer himself boasts the game about.
The added adult scenes are a plus because I don't mind looking at adult content. Does every single adult content make me open my pants and fap? No. I have self control. Are the scenes well made for a team of two developers? Yes, very much so. Is it meant to be some sort of simulation where a player can choose how certain sex scenes look? No. For a very small development team, they did an amazing job with the artwork.
Again, it really sounds like a serious personal problem if you need to constantly fap at every single sex scene you see in life.
Are you sure you read the KP Store Page and some guides to see what this game is all about before trying?
This game is a game to fap, is marketed as such, is made for that, and does suit that purpose, no matter how much you try to spin it. RPG elements, music and everything else that you are playing for is really nothing special and done in a better way in other games, even in other eroge too. The game has very high density sexual content, not "too many" but "too dense", and that's working against games like these.
