GHOST WRITING & DRAWING:

Reminder: Writing/drawing is not always part of the evidence for your entity. Every entity has it's own randomized set of evidence.

Surface Drawing and Surface Writing:

• Surface drawing/writing evidence will be present upon loading into the map. You do not need to ask the entity to provide this evidence.
  
• If you find writing or a drawing on a surface (wall, floor, ceiling), this means there cannot be Book Writing or Drawing.
  
• Surface writing and drawing can sometimes be invisible, you will be able to locate them with the photo camera.
  
• The MEL-80 will give a value of approximately 16 if you in close proximity to Surface Writing/Drawing.
  
• Pentagrams do not count as Surface Writing/Drawing (or Book Writing/Drawing) evidence and will produce a higher value on the MEL-80 (when in close proximity).

The Writing Book:

• You must be holding the book for the entity to write or draw in it. It will not give the evidence if the book is not held in your hand.
  
• You can ask the entity to write in the book when it is nearby, or while you are standing in the Dread Origin.
  
• An attacking entity will not write or draw in the book during it's attack phase.
  
• If you want to make the entity approach you, then you can say "Spirit, show yourself". It will usually come closer to you - you will always be able to see entity using the Photo Camera.

EXORCISM BOOK & VOICE RECOGNITION:

• Test your microphone somewhere that allows you to listen to how you sound. Be sure your voice isn't distorting or crackling on account of bad hardware/software.
  
• Be sure you are giving a (approximate) 1-2 second pause between reading each line. Just like a real exorcism reading.
  
• Try to not yell too loudly, or speak to quietly. You should try to speak as naturally as possible.
  
• Not pronouncing your words well enough, and over-pronouncing words can both have a negative effect in the voice recognition.

If those steps do not help, continue with these:

• In Windows, search "Language settings". Select the “Speech” option under Language and select/enable “Recognize non-native accents for this language”.
  
• There is a known bug in Windows which can cause the Cortana voice service to 'sleep' after a period of time. If you are using the Windows 10/11 Voice Module (in-game settings), and suspect this may be happening, try the following:

1. While in-game press the Windows key on your keyboard (the key between left Alt and left Ctrl).
   
2. The windows launch bar should have opened.
   
3. Click back into the game, and walk forward/backward a few steps.
   
4. Try your mic / exorcism book again.

• If the above did not help: in-game, go to Options > Language and Voice. Activate the "External Application" module, under 'Voice Recognition Application'. Please allow the game up to 2 minutes to load the necessary files before testing again.

MICROPHONE NOT WORKING AT ALL:

• Close the game. Disconnect then reconnect your microphone, then start the game again.

If it is still not working, try the following:

1. Right click the the speaker/sound icon in the bottom right corner.
   
2. Select "open sound settings".
   
3. Under "Input" select your desired microphone and click on “Device Properties” and then in the next page click "Additional Device Properties".
   
4. At the top set of tabs, select "advanced" and be sure the box next to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is not checked.

• Ensure that the game window is the active window when testing your mic. If you tab out or have the cursor focused inside another window or monitor, the voice recognition may not work correctly.
  
• Ensure your microphone device in-game is the same as your selected Windows microphone input device.
  
• In Windows, search “microphone privacy settings”. Ensure “Allow apps to access your microphone” is checked on, as well as “Allow desktop apps to access your microphone”.
