In regards to moving goods to the main base that has to be done through the dock. If you open the dock panel (E) after docking you get the option to enable a couple belts in either direction. Thats the only way to gets goods in an automated way in or out your main base.
The Dock is, essentially, a bridge that has 4 inbuilt conduits you can configure as your input/output. For an example you could build a conveyor belt leading up to a Dock and one leading from it and the Dock can link the two.
I don't bother with building Carbon Generators on planetoids as it's quicker and more convenient to use Solar Panels. No need for fuel that way.
