My take is that you should read drill instead of miner in the patch notes. I dont think mining drones will be able to mine ice, wood, quartz or stone, it would make them really overpowered in regards to drills.

ok i was thinking about the nodes rather than the patches of ground. nodes are spread out and miners become very inefficient when they have to travel. drills for ground and drones for nodes would work and the can always slow the harvest rate if they are worried out it being OP. wait and see i guess.

It definitely says 'miners' though. My take is that maybe they "accidentally" harvest stuff like that if it is in their path as they dig a node out. A bit of official clarification would help. It would be great to get Quartz for Glass manufacturing.

Drill already harvest Ice/quartz/stone. I couldnt find that in game. Or maybe they will harvest them if it's above a "regular" node?

For now they are collecting it when they have to destroy as they are obstacles. In the future there will be a specific option to make them go for that specific resource

I prefer Miner Drones to the Drill anyway. The drill only seems able to dig down to a limited distance of maybe 4 or 5 blocks. I have a planetoid that's pretty oval in shame and the drill can't go down far enough to harvest the nodes even though I left it alone for quite a while. I won't be bothering will Drills in future!

I suspect the Drill is faster and more efficient. You could manually, or via Drill, dig out a platform at a lower level, to get access to the lower nodes. Digging out Dirt/Quarts is fairly fast and might be faster than having Miner Drones get it out, as each block of Ore requires the Drone to come back to base to drop it off...

Well, that's a workaround I admit. That said, if I have to dig down 4 or 5 blocks so the the Drill can... well... drill, I don't think I can see a use for it in a game of mine (no pun intended).

Maybe not, but this is info for more than just yourself. Don't want to manually DIG down that far, just use the Drill to create its own hole. Once it's drilled down as far as it can, one could always expand the space, vertically as well as horizontally, to create the necessary space to install said Drill. One would have to also create a way to get the resources out, although Transport Bot's might work...

I'd use drill rigs more if they were just smarter to place. They are more concerned about the terrain than where the product is located. You lay out a area of floor and then hopefully you place the rig over most of the product, and wait. Come back and then move the rig, or dig by hand the last bits. I've built better rigs in Space Engineers. Snap to product, and dig deeper. For the love of xmas, dig to the resources below the surface. I can use dirt.

Have you tried building the truck with the drill head? Oh yeah, that's a PITA.

what do you mean overpowered they mine 1 resource and bring it back to the dock they couldnt be slower. it would take probly 6 miners to even hope of matching the speed of the drill let alone how fast the player can mine
