Consist issues
Why is my wheat > dairy farm train suddenly carrying... coal? It's been going from the wheat farm, to the dairy farm, to the wheat farm... for some time now, transporting wheat. All of a sudden, I have no cheese. Why? Because I have no milk. Why? Because the AI controlling whatever the AI controls on my wheat train is carrying coal, not wheat, to the dairy farm. Sometimes I don't get this game.

Generally speaking, after having had some fun with this game over the last few weeks, I'm getting exasperated with the AI. The challenge now is trying to figure out the AI and what it's gonna do next. Like building a 4 way loop with 2 bridges and track looping underneath, only to come back a bit later to a crash because somehow the game has DELETED the bridges and created a deathtrap.

Another train tonight had been running a quarry to city run and that was primarily filled with coal also. Quarry, load stone, city, unload stone? Where did the coal come from?

Also, I stated in a earlier post that I think craftsmen will board trains and do laborer jobs. Scratch that. I'm finding I'm short on craftsmen all over the map. Why? Because they are loading onto worker trains that are heading to laborer jobs, like sawmill, quarry, etc, and not swapping out with the laborers at that industry. My laborer industry trains are clogged up with craftsmen and my craftsmen industries aren't working cuz they are all joyriding on other trains. I'm having to reset all of my workers trains now to specify what workers to carry. A few days ago it was automatic. Laborers went to laborer industries, craftsmen went to craftsmen industries.

The game is becoming a bit too much of a chore atm. I still like the game and will probably keep playing, albeit with regular saves now, because you never know when the AI is gonna pull a rabbit out of it's hat.

It is carrying coal because you told it to take a full load. You didn't tell it to take only wheat. You probably delivered coal to fhe wheat farm. Wheat and coal are carried in the same wagon. If you have more than one item that can be carried in the same wagon in a station, you need to set a filter to only pick up the item you want picked up.

Same thing with laborers and craftsmen. You can lock certain wagons to that haul both craftsmen and laborers to hold what you want them to hold. There was a bug that let craftsmen ride in wagons that they were not supposed to ride in.. That was fixed.

So, tell the wagon what you want in it.

Example: your Warehouse has bricks and cut stone. Both are hauled by a flat car. If you set a flat car to load from the warehouse and you don't tell it which item to load, it could load either one.

The wait conditions of all of the train routes in question are set to "Until done" or "Time passed". None are set to "For full cargo". So, unless "Until done" now causes the cars to fill with w/e they can carry, something is broken. Because that didn't happen until just yesterday when I started having this problem. That's why I said in my post that it happened "suddenly". It was never doing it and then suddenly started doing it.

But, I will change ALL of my trains to carry the specific cargo.

I take it then that craftsmen will NOT do laborer jobs? But, it appears, as of that post a couple of days ago, that unless you specify your worker trains going to a sawmill to carry laborers ONLY, then craftsmen will get on those trains even though they won't debark or swap for the tired laborers there? That's kinda stupid actually.

I would picture a train platform with time and destination info that a craftsman is scanning. He's pretty smart. Is he gonna get on the train that is only traveling from that platform to the sawmill and back? I don't think so.

Well.. If you want the game to work.. If you use a wagon that can carry either laborers or craftsmen.. Specify the one oh want. Or don't and the game will not work correctly. Your choice.

The game works all the way to end at this point.. But there are bugs (it's early access). It is a bug that craftsmen will get in a train that should only have laborers, but the work around is simple.

Hasn't this been fixed in the latest HotFix? Hold on! Let me check.

Yes, it seems to have been. From the 0.2.28 changelog:

Fixed after upgrading residences craftsmen boarding laborer trains #155201;

Whether the fix was successful or not, I can't say for sure yet. :-)

They fixed the issue were craftsmen get on a wagon they aren't allowed on. (that is they would get in laborer only wagons).

I'm not sure if they fixed craftsmen will get on wagons like ST30 or DT10 (cars they can both ride in) even if the destination has no spots for them. It is very easy just to set a filter and / or lock them to individual cars.

Ah! I understand what you're saying now. I misunderstood. :steamfacepalm:
