Tabby even tells you she doesn't want the life she has; she's realized she will die old, alone and disliked like every Scarlet before her. She's actually a victim of circumstances (her own and the family's) and the curse.
But I don't self insert. I decide of my MCs personality, and pick the choice options depending on that. So what I'd do in real life is not really relevant.
As story unfolds Tabitha puts off her obnoxious and harsh front to reveal her better traits and it is this three-dimensional psychology of her character that I enjoyed so much.
Also the 4ep ending where both MC and Tabitha find and console Stella together and then these two even reconcile is imho just one of the best parts of the whole game. I did not manage to have this beautiful ending with Tabitha not being friendly enough.
Sadly, it's impossible to me since I can't call Tabby during the whole Reese incident (I theoretically COULD, but it would be OOC for my character to do so)
Tabitha is a curmudgeon, and true curmudgeons always have real heart to them. IRL I take great pleasure in wearing down curmudgeons until they show some joy. That was pretty much the tactic I used with Tabitha. I still made my own decisions, but I included her in them.
I agree completely.
Tabitha is in a no-win, miserable situation. She shoulders an overwhelming burden -- not just her family history, but also trying to keep the mines running because they're the only real source of employment and income for Scarlet Hollow. She was raised by a monstrous woman who isolated her from friends, lovers, and family. All she wants to do is be a bank teller.
Glad someone sees that similarly. It just felt wrong to dismiss Tabitha just because she was annoying and ♥♥♥♥♥♥, yet her roughness did not feel like something that she would do with evil intent. Also there were some visible sparks of goodness even in the beginning. Like when she followed MC in the mine despite her better judgment or covered for MC when policemen were harrasing her and such. Or saving MC from mutated Reese. She is often obnoxious but always helpful and protective. Sometimes maybe a little too much but I understood that as outcome of her horrible upbringing by controlling and evil mother. And in case of Tabitha I did not feel like she is being manipulative or evil at all. More like overstressed and resignated., the hardy attitude is half her upbringing, half a mask. She just wants to save the mine and town and to protect MC but does not have a grasp on concept of boundaries and social interactions, because she was never let to have neither of those.
Huh, that's an interesting perspective! I mean, the part about her being overprotective or not having a grasp of boundaries.
My MC is an extremely protective person, and one who also tends to try and shoulder as much as he can to relieve other people. But because of that, he totally understands Tabby acting the way she does since they are pretty similar in that regard. Which means since my vision is "tainted" by my MC (as it should, since I'm immersed in the story), I never even saw her as being too protective or not respectful of boundaries.
Maybe that's why my MC and her have such a "natural" relationship, and at the end of the day one that's pretty "easy". Basically my MC doesn't have to make compromises to try and please her nor does he have to oppose her really, since they basically are on the same wavelenght most of the time.
That also means any disagreements are quickly sorted.
And that despite the fact my MC is usually a very trusting ray of sunshine and Tabby the opposite.
Reese warns us after transforming to call her off so there won't be two corpses, so naturally one would expect we could be malicious here and let things play out on their own, feeding our boy Reese a double serving for supper. But nope. No can do..
(Your MC never felt any danger from Reese hulking out into a monster and wanting to eat his mother?)
Not the guy you're asking but while we're on this specific subject - I feel we're missing a crucial dialog option here:
"- Why the long face?"
Not really, no.
He 100% trusted Reese. The ones he didn't trust anymore at that point were Wayne and Joan. But between his confidence in his own athletic abilities and precisely the fact Reese was a damn monster (summonning even more "monsters"), why would he be afraid?
Sure, he would have liked to be able to stop Reese from killing his mother, but he also understands why he wanted to kill her considering what she did to him.
His main concerns were preventing Wayne from killing Reese and preventing Joan from sedating him.
