Changing Number of Years in the Ending

I would like to preface this by saying that I have a couple of completions of the game under my belt, but I realised that the number of years each time you finish is different only now. At first I wrote it off as my memory being faulty, but I had two good runs recently back to back and the numbers clearly changed. Today it said 2 years, yesterday it was 5 and Google says its supposed to be 3. Is there a reason for this? Anything lore related or is it supposed to just mess with us?

I just beat it earlier tonight, and for me it said 4 years later.

If I'm correct, the number of years is the number of completed runs minus 1. So if you completed 4 runs it should say "5 years later". Because the first time I finished it said "2 years later", the second time it said "3 years later" and on the third time it said "4 years later"

anecdotal evidence. My first completion before any other was "4 years later".
