Cannot launch game. "Impossible de charger Joystick2.mfx."

Recently re-installed the game after playing a couple hours of it a few years ago. Trying to launch the game just gives me the following error message and nothing else:

"Impossible de charger Joystick2.mfx. Cet objet a peut-etre besoin d'un programme externe ou d'une librairie non installee."

I've tried deleting and doing a fresh install, and validating the game files. I'm really at a loss on what to do. Has anyone else seen this issue before, or know how to fix it? Thank you for any input.

Hi, maybe it's the same issue as with people who get the issue "cannot load steamworks.mfx". You can check this issue in other threads, but basically it can be fixed by launching the game after changing compatibility mode. Let me know if it's still not working.

No, launching the game in compatibility mode does not work either. Produces the same error.

Do you use any antivirus? Maybe the antivirus is marking it as unsafe file? In this kind it would need to be marked as safe.

No, the game is not triggering the antivirus. Scanning the game's local files and appdata do not return a virus.

Maybe there is a list of files quarantined by your antivirus, and one of the game file is inside?

I don't understand how it's possible, this mfx is supposed to be integrated in the exe, that's the first time that this issue happens. We can try a last thing, can you give me a email adress? I'll send you the .mfx file directly and maybe copy/pasting it in the game's file will fix the issue.
I would understand that you're tired of all of this and want to refund btw, I'm terribly sorry for this bug honestly

Hi, do you have an antivirus and can you access the list of quarantined objects maybe?

I don't have any files showing in the quarantined section in Bitdefender or Windows Security

Ok, so the issue was that I didn't sacrificed a chicken during the full moon previous month, but it's fixed!

Hey so i just wanted to let the dev know that this issue is still not resolved. I just bought the game a few hours ago and i was having the exact same issues as OP. i spent the last few hours looking around on the internet trying to diagnosis the problem and determined what was causing the issue. Joystick2.mfx needs xinput1_3.dll in the system32 folder to function. If you are on a newer version of windows and have direct x 12 installed you will have xinput1_4.dll but lack xinput1_3.dll and you will need to download older versions of direct x for the game to run. https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=35

I'm having the same issue. I'm going to have to get a refund if I can't even launch the game
