Do I need to have played the other titles?
Please go easy on me.

Even though I've been gaming for decades, FF is a franchise that just passed by me. Never played any game of the series. I am also not a huge fan of JRPGs (but also haven't really tried a lot to be honest).

Any chance I can still enjoy this? And most importantly, are FF games standalone titles or is this a huge connected story which I'll neber be able to catch up to?

Thanks in advance.

Hey! Most Final fantasy games are standalone games only linked together by some concepts. Therefore you dont need to have played 6 to play 7 and so on and so forth. The only exception i can think of would be final fantasy 13 13-2 13-3 (obviously) and final fantasy 10 and 10-2. As for this game it is a prequel to final fantasy 7 (original) not the remake from what i can see so far. So having played 7 is not necessary.

This is the prequel to Final Fantasy 7 which was released after FF7 and gives us the backstory of a certain characters. It will spoil character backstories for the original Final Fantasy 7 so it is better played after the original. But the remake of Final Fantasy 7 kind of expects you to have played it as it is slightly different than the original FF7, as it is both a sequel and remake.

The FF7 remake is also incomplete, having only released the first game of 3. So assuming you have no plans to play the original FF7 I honestly don't know if it is better to start with this game or FF7 Remake.

I would start with FF7 then Crisis Core then FF7R.

The Remake isnt a remake, its a sequel. So you have to play the original first unless you want things to be spoiled or not make sense.

I always felt CC was a half cannon prequel cash grab l filler to the original Final fantasy vii especially the sephiroth to genisis interactions. If you ever think of playing FFVII (Not remake) then you probably shouldn't play crisis core before because it will kind of ruin the twist in the original.

Remake stands fine on it's own.
Despite my profile I have never gone beyond the Slums first area in OG FF7.

OP: Final Fantasy each seperated by their numbering are games that stand on their own.
All games in the 7 numerical are connected to the story of FF7 and FF1 to FF6 each have their own stories.
You can play Crisis Core Reunion or FF7Remake.
Whichever you want to try first.
But in my opinion for someone going in completely blind I would recommend Remake and then this game, As Crisis Core in it's nature will spoil some plots from the original story.
Plots which are also present in the Remake.

While FFVII original is technically a prequel to Remake (It's complicated, But elaborating would be spoiling the story) they are different games.

If you have no intention of playing the original (As I am aswell) then I would recommend Remake and then Crisis Core Reunion.

Hope this was informative and you are able to decide if and which you want to play first.

This game is connected to FF7 you probably should play that first.

Remake stands fine on it's own.
Lol, then explain the ending without mentioning anything from the original FF7 or Advent Children, or Crisis Core xD.

Especially when the Remake/Sequel spoils multiple aspects of the original story if you havent played it already.

If you're a newcomer, there are many better entries to the FF franchise than this one.

VII Remake, X, XII, IX, or V & VI are fine for beginners.

That only applies to the separate numbered games.

The games that are connected to a main numbered game, require you to play the original numbered game. So play X2 after X, 7 Crisis Core after 7, and technically 7 Remake after 7 considering what we know about it.
