Can someone.. uhh, explain the story? [spoilers]
I played the original FF7 in 2021 and loved the characters/story. Naturally, I was excited to play this game because it ties into the original(?)'s storyline. [Haven't played the remake due to it being a 90gb download @ 4 MBS for me, lol.]

But for goodness sake.. some of the things that happen make no sense. What is the context? Why does Angeal try to kill Zack? Side with Genesis? Why is Genesis... doing what he's doing? Because he's degrading and wants the world to come with him..? Because he's angry that he's "different" because of his wing..? Oh, goodness, I'm just really confused. There's some cute moments but the writing is very all-over the place.
I'm halfway through with it but it's just.. yeah. I was expecting something much more coherent with the way fans were hyping it up.

Play it to the end before asking questions, moron.

That's pretty much my experience as well. It's a mess and I wasn't very impressed after finishing it. At least Zack is good.

This is definitely more of a emotional kind of game rather then a AAA story writing, or any writing for that matters kind of game. You have to go along with it and accept it for it to wok. It's a shame because this game could have been a AAA game so easily with "small changes".

Yeah, I agree. I like it, but, it seems like it could've been much better.

Genesis finds out he is a lab created "monster", discovers what Shinra is really about, and he is degrading. Seem like damn good reasons to have an existential crisis and try to find a cure for himself (through Hollander and other ways).
Angeal goes through a similar experience (minus the degradation part) but, unlike Genesis, he mostly internalizes it. He never really tries to kill Zack, he actually wants Zack to kill him in the end. He smiles during their first confrontation (the "what do angels dream of?" cutscene) and thanks Zack after the actual boss fight later in the story.
Both are men trying to find their place in the world after discovering that their entire lives were a lie. Neither of them is a real villain, not even Genesis who gets his SOLDIER honor "restored" at the end of Crisis Core and years later decides to become the guardian of the planet (see Dirge of Cerberus secret ending, which is the last game of the Compilation in the timeline).
But yeah, you should definitely complete the story yourself before asking questions about the plot as other users suggested.

That's funny. I allways cared more about CC story and gameplay than original FF7. FF7 was and still is one of meh ff parts for me, but CC is mostly on top. That's just my opinion. Don't hate me. ;)
