Buster Sword Proficiency Bonus
I've been seeing on a few websites that the Buster Sword proficiency bonuses are Damage Limit Break at ~25% and Barrier Piercing at ~55%. But I just unlocked Barrier Piercing as my first bonus at 13.74%. So 🤷

Yeah, those "Milestones" are more "Polite Suggestions" for when they unlock. Worse, the Day 1 Patch for consoles fixed a bug that prevented the proficiency from passing 95%. We never got that patch. It is still unclear if it was fixed in the recent Week 2 Patch that just launched.

To level up the proficiency, do you have to just kill things with the sword? Use the power stance? Or can I just kill things with magic?

I thought it was a nod to the fact that Zack isn't the true wielder of the buster sword, that being Cloud.

Use "Strong Attack" or abilities.

More specifically there's at least 3 separate "meters" for it

1: Killing enemies with the stance's normal attack

2: Killing enemies with command materia during the stance

3: Blocking damage while in the stance

Each one only raises it so much, there's something more to it though as mine is still stuck on 90% and I'm missing 2 abilities from it but I have no idea what it is I'm actually missing

Anyone know why I suddenly jumped from around 8% proficiency to 19%? It literally jumped 11% all at once.

All I've seen about that is it just randomly happens at some point. No info on what triggers it to happen as of now.

Ok. Just so long as I know it's happened to other people too. I mean I'm not complaining but I just found it strange.

is it perhaps dependent on what mobs killed ? or perhaps endgame level mobs needed for 80 or 90% and such ? just speculations. It also doesnt seem to raise for me when i cleared the first wave of simple enemies like the 50 or 100 soldiers training missions, but they keep coming until the missions over. that also seemed to happen at costa del sol with the waves of worms. Nvm also seemed to jump by 8 recently (not the big number but smaller one) after one hitting 3 enemies at once, first time i did it it apparently jumped from around 12 to 19%, but still not certain of anything but i try line them up more for a one hit, this was on rank 2 mission too, so perhaps enemy lvls dont matter, or perhaps its pre determined somehow in a strange way. still strange tho

I don't think the level of the monsters matters, you MIGHT get more if they're a higher level but lower level ones never actually stop giving you progress if you haven't hit the ceiling of what you trying to raise unless you hit the per battle cap. Which is only so much per requirement but there is also a hard cap in general per fight as well.

Yeah, there is a very rare chance of getting a random 10% bonus. It's intentional. It usually does not happen more than once per save.

I've read in a few places that getting 100% on Angeal DMW causes the 10% jump in proficiency but haven't been able to test this yet.
Raven Apr 17, 2023 @ 10:05am
Maxed Angela a while ago while I was around 5%, no increase. Now at 26%, max almost all dmw and at chapter 9 with about 53% mission completion.

No 10%, no damage break and no barrier break.

Really starting to dislike the game. Missions are impossible or extremely tedious due to damage cap and I got screwed a couple of times on getting new scenes due to Zack getting stuck in the stance while enemies in their last breath killed me.

The DMW randomness is also a great pain. Makes some missions extremely hard if the game decides you don't need a limit break or buff for minutes on end.

There was never such a bug.

The display gets stuck at 95%, that's correct. But that's the point where you have to attack specific enemies (best case is during a specific mission).
At some point, you'll get from 95% to 100% and the last Buster Sword ability unlocked:

I've exactly followed these instructions to unlock the 100%.
