Why does this look so cheap?
Don't get me wrong, the game is probably fun and have a good story and so on. I just don't have a lot time to play so will take some time before I get through this one. But why does the graphics look so cheap? I feel like the FF7:remake looks better, this is so low-res and low-poly it is weird. Feels cheap and lazy. Just my first reaction after playing for 20 minutes and now have to do other stuff. Cannot say anything about actual gameplay and so on yet but the graphics and animations so far look worse than the FF7:remake and that just makes me a bit sad. (Even running the game in 4K 120FPS the pre-render cutscenes all looks so smudge it is crazy)

It's a remaster of a PSP game. It would look a lot better if they outright remade the game from scratch, but this is maybe the best this will ever look without that..

understandable, a bit sad though would've been great if they did a total remake from scratch.

Because this has nothing to do with FF7R. It's not a sequel or FF7R Part 2. Crisis Core is a prequel to the original FF7 released on the PSP 15 years ago. This is an enhanced remaster of that PSP game.

Agreed, but this is a nice snack while we wait for FF7part2. Otherwise, it would've probably taken years longer.

Never said it was a sequel or part 2 so do not get where you got that from. I am very much aware of the fact that this was released for PSP 15 years ago, I was 15 at the time and also I know it is a prequel. However that does not excuse them from not updating the smudge cutscenes and poor animation, it just looks cheap even if the game itself is good.

Yeah I can agree on that. Really looking forward to part2. :)

Wish they could've upped the pre-render cutscenes though a bit hard to watch a smudge screen.

Its going to further muddy the waters when Ever Crisis comes out in a few months which is gonna retell this game in addition to the others too.

My guess is they tried to release it as quick as possible to not compete and get some extra cash out of it. although, given the fandom they might have bought it anyway after the fact.

Ever Crisis is that mobile phone game right? Sadly or well not sadly I do not play anything on a mobile phone (horrible platform to play at) so just gonna have to watch youtube for that haha.

yes and unfortunately it with have MTs which is a frightening prospect. But it will technically cover the entire Compilation.

MTs are bad, but I guess that is how they will make money of their product. Probably lucrative, some people do fall for it.

It's a remaster of a PSP game.. If you had played the PSP version you can clearly see this is a massive improvement over it. It looks great and it runs silky smooth. I don't think I could enjoy it back on the PSP because PSP always just felt like gimped PS3 to me but now with music blasting through my headphone amp and the 120fps, with these sweet visuals it plays awesome. Sure it's not on the level of remake but I'm used to playing old games.

I'm sure it'll have a terrible story, unlikable characters and mediocre combat like every other jrpg.

Yeah I played some of it on PSP but well my PSP got abannonded very quickly found it a very boring handheld console. And yeah I do remember the game looking horrible on the PSP lol but still even though they did update this (looks like they might have pulled some assets from the FF7Remake in the environment) the cutscenes still look smudge which is a bit sad. I had no clue it was just a remaster (like has been stated by others in the thread already), normally I do not buy remasters because I find them lazy and cashgraby and I don't want to support that but oh well. Yes ingame the graphics are crisp/sharp and smooth 120 FPS etc but when it turns to cutscene all detail is lost and it just looks smudged.
