HOW TO PLAY ONLINE
We've seen people struggling with the online gameplay and we want to make sure we address all the issues and solve every problem you may have. So here is a guide on how to play online and what you should expect, so we can have a better understanding of the issues you're having.
Please feel free to answer this post with your issues and what's different with your game so we can address the problems, thanks

How to play online
One of the players needs to select a file, go to multiplayer, and hit the: "Host Online" button. Once you've done it, you won't be able to select a character until your friend has joined the game.
To join a game, select a file, select multiplayer, and this time select: "Join Online"
The player joining must enter a code that appears at the top of the screen of the player hosting.
If you enter the code correctly, you should join the player hosting and both usernames will appear at the top-left corner of the screen. Then you'll be able to just select a character and start playing.

Common Issues

Lost connection message when trying to join/host
This can happen sometimes (we're looking into it) but you should be able to hit it again and it should work. If not, make sure you don't have problems with your internet connection

Incorrect code message
Sometimes even if you enter the correct code, it can show an "Incorrect code" message. If so, please try entering the code again. Also, the player hosting needs to allow other systems to connect through the firewall (a message should automatically pop on the hosting PC to allow so)

I can't invite my friends through Steam or they can't join through Steam
Yes, that's intended and not a feature anymore. To allow for online cross-platform, we sadly had to eliminate Steam invitations and replace them with an in-game code.

I can't select a character while hosting
You won't be able to select a character while hosting until someone has joined the game. When they do, their name should appear on the top left corner of the screen.

Report Bugs
Please, let us know in the comments if you have any issues outside the common ones (which we're investigating) and we'll try to fix them.
If we need more info, we'll ask you to send your "player" file to our email.
So please, if we ask for, send the Player file located at:
"C:\Users\User\AppData\LocalLow\SandCastles\Bread_Fred"
To our email

Thank you for being so helpful

My friend and I both tried hosting with completely different results.

I tried hosting first, he was able to connect after 2 attempts, however when we got in, his character was stuck in a jump animation, only able to slide around, it was spamming the same sound over and over. I don't have super great internet, so we chalked it up to that initially.
Then he tried to host and I would get "Incorrect code" message no matter how many times I tried, new codes, closing the game, etc.
Neither of us ever got a firewall prompt so maybe that has something to do with it.

Remote play worked fine for us in the past, but this is our experience with both owning a copy.

The issue me and my friend are having is that we spontaneously lose connection to the server and we get thrown out of the session while we are in the middle of playing. It seems random and both our internet connections are fine. It has happened at least 5 times during our 8 hours of total playtime. We do not have an issue at joining/hosting.

I think it doesn't work at all if someone is behind NAT. Do you have any TURN/STUN server to resolve issues like that?

gotta love when you cant play a pvs game because multiplayer doesn't work like how

We cant even get the game to connect to the other persons game at all, no message that the code is incorrect. Firewall rules allowed. It worked once randomly, I have no idea what I did differently, we've tried passing host back and forth. Random. This post does not help.

The new online connection method really sucks. It's very unstable and random. Hope to get the original version back.

The servers are so unstable at the moment unplayable, we need a fix for this pls :(

I am having an issue where I host the lobby and then had my gf join and it would be stuck on the local, host or join screen, We tried to do steam remote play but that didnt work. Also whenever it was hosted it wouldn't remove that screen.

Im having a problem entering the code for joining a lobby and i dont know why, it says i should hit the space bar, but when im doing it, it just adds spaces AFTER the code. No idea how to confirm the code, i tried clicking away from the code textbox, but it always jumps back into the textbox to add spaces

Why has there been no acknowledgement that an issue exists with multiplayer? I see multiple threads, and devs are ghosting. No communication is shady and unprofessional, no matter how small the dev team.

Friend tried hosting, code didnt work when I tried to join. I tried hosting, code did not work when I tried to join. no firewall messages. It is broken.

it's still broken, me and my brother are trying to play but we can't

Hi, I am currently unable to access the multiplayer menu, it sends me to another menu where it says "press spacebar to join" any help?
cdutson-TTV Aug 17, 2024 @ 11:35am
Are there any specific ports that need to be allowed though firewalls? Me and my friend were totally unable to play (we both took turns hosting) but we never got any firewall alerts.

As an aside: Steam remote play worked seamlessly
