DEMO - very first jump?

I tried playing the demo with my daughter. After about 20 mins trying to swing over the very first gap we quit the game. I don't know what we did wrong. Both on controller, one holding x to anchor and the other swinging. We never got close to making it. WE couldn't figure out the timing and get momentum from the swing. Maybe that's the point, maybe it's not for me.

One has to swing with significant speed while the other has to time their jump when you're swinging the hardest. Hope this helps!
