From my experience, you still gain EXP rank whether you get Top 1 or not. I'm not 100% sure tho since most of my ranked games are Top 3-4. Maybe if you die as 5-8 place maybe?

you can't derank, i went through 4 bad matches earlier where i just dropped in and got jumped so i can't even get score. but i didn't derank even though i got down to 1 rank point.

Yes, you can derank. It works differently to most standard ranking systems however.

Note: for the sake of simplicity I will be using different numbers from their actual values, but the concept still applies.

So, let's say you just hit 33000 points in ranked. That gets you to Pro (Gold) 1.

The next time you enter a ranked game, you pay a "fee" of points based on your level. For Pro 1, let's say it's 400 points. The fee increases with each level.

So, as soon as you've entered the match, you're now at 32600 points.
Then, you gain points based on your performance in that match (mostly from kills and damage). If you do not perform well enough to make up for the points you "spent" to enter the match, you end up with a net loss. Let's say you get one kill but you and your team get KOed right afterwards, within the first few minutes of the match. You might have earned about 200 points (again, example numbers for simplicity), which means all in all you lose 200 points.

However, you won't immediately rank down for going below 33000 points. Each rank has an acceptable limit you can go below. Let's say, for Pro 1, the limit is 1500 points. That means that you would actually have to reach 31500 points to go down a rank.

I will note that as iExiiT also said above, I'm not sure if you can drop full tiers, for example from Pro (gold) to Amateur (silver).

For your convenience, here is an image that shows all of the ranks and what points are required to reach them: https://i.imgur.com/owsJPCL.jpeg
