I think we're going to have to wait until the next maintenance, to see if it gets fixed.
My main Steam account (this one) has been playing since the game was available for download. For a good while I had no issues. Suddenly can no longer find matches. If I do find teammates, I am forced to wait in the waiting area for several minutes whilst the game tries to find opponents. Most of the time, it finds 1, maybe 2 other teams, then fills the rest with bots.
I had not played Ranked before this started occurring. I tried out Ranked in case it was just a lack of players in Unranked but the same issue occurred. I even had a Ranked match full of bots, no human opponents.
I have tried every available region in the settings, with no luck.
I do not disconnect from matches. This of course doesn't include any time the servers have melted down and booted me to the title screen. If I am downed and my team cannot revive me (i.e. I died in the purple zone or they are way too far away), I exit via the "Results" option. This option specifically states that if you exit to the results, you will not get points for your team's performance once you leave. But it does not say anything about being penalised for leaving, or that it considers it "abandoning the match".
I created a new Steam account and tried playing on that. I was immediately able to find teammates and connect to full lobbies. My game settings carry over from my main account to the alt account.
This means that the issue is not due to my connection or a bad install. It's specifically my Steam account.
I saw the tweet from the devs and they're aware of the issue.
I managed to get teammates after some time, but wait times are still far in between. I believe the problem is a mix of both matching system issue and lack of players. However I could be wrong entirely.
It's definitely not a lack of players. I tested both my accounts several times at different times throughout the day and the results were consistent; this account barely finds opponents, my alt account finds them immediately.
