Garrisoning Ancient Forests
If you are a faction that can't actually control an Ancient Forest (and can't burn it down), does parking a stack of troops on it prevent it from spawning new creatures?

I usually try to do this, but it *seems* not to prevent new animals from spawning nearby. What is the mechanism for Ancient Forests to spawn troops? How do I lock them down?

Thanks!

Ancient Forests will spawn unit on themself.
If this is blocked, they will start spawning units in the surrounding areas. I do not know if it has to be a forest.

So to completely block it off, you would have to part 1 unit on every forest tile surrounding the ancient forest.
Maybe even every non-forest tile too.

I assume the maximum spawn distance is 1 tile, but it could be higher.

I usually part a small cleanup army on or next to any ancient forest that is near valuable stuff.

I think it either doesn't care if the surrounding tiles are blocked and spawns new animals anyway (leading to battles), or spawns at greater distance, because I've tried to surround the ancient forest, and my 1-unit perimeter guards kept being attacked

Parking units on the ancient forest doesn't stop animal spawns.

You need either certain items that give you the Burn Forest ability, or a spellcaster with the correct spells that allow you to burn forests.

Senator is a human faction that can't do much but recruitable revelers can capture forests to spawn things for you instead.

As certain factions if you're unlucky you're not going to be doing anything about the ancient forest and you'll have to devote a small force to constantly mopping up animals if it's in a part of the map you really care about, like near mines and villages. Hopefully whatever force you have can't take losses, or benefits in some way from killing animals like raising them from the dead, or building effigies from bodies, or you've hired a forest caster to tame a few.

There is also an axe that let's you chop down forest without burning them.

Thanks! I suspected that just parking troops wasn't working, but it's nice to have this confirmed. Guess I need to find someone who loves matches.
