Is it worth it?

I don't want to start a flame here. But I have been waiting for the full release for some time here now. But I read the last reviews, and they are not giving me hope. Is it this bad? I mean it was very positive and now it is mixed .. And some reviews from with + 100 hours of gameplay! So I would love to have a nice explanation, is it worth it?

Hey Alex,

Having gone through the reviews thoroughly recently, we found that around 95% of negative reviews posted focused solely on the design of a character that hadn't even been introduced to the game at the time of the reviews being submitted, instead of relating to any gameplay or actual criticism of the game as it existed at that stage, Until we announced the latest factiong, we were at 80% positive recent reviews.

As we reminded many people during this time, the game is not a 1:1 adaption of the books, (ignoring the fact that the story as presented fundamentally would not work in a 4X setting from a gameplay perspective) it is our interpretation of the world and characters and in no way detracts from the existing media or characters as they are portrayed in said media.

I'd suggest maybe watching some streams or youtube videos and deciding if you like what you see. If you fancy it, pick it up and try it out, we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Dont really know Northguard, so cant compare both, but as a 4X and Dune game, I would say its not worth it and have over 150hrs.

I really like strategy game and am crazy about Dune, this is the only reason why I bought and played this game, if you're not a Dune fan, game is totally forgettable.

Beside the fact Shiro seem to be compelled to make some stupid gender change on main characters and think the basic conquest mode is as good as a real fully fleshed campaing for each factions, the biggest drawback is the hybrid nature of the game. Its not a good 4X and far from a real rts. Its not a bad game, but its a very light Dune theme 4X/RTS ishh game.

So even if you're fan of both genre and really like Dune universe, im not convinced its worth the price for now but the game still have plenty of room for improvements.

If you want multiplayer sure it might be worth it. Not worth it for singleplayer though imo

Im sure you will like it, its a very fun game and there is multiple ways to win a game. Lots of replayability.

Wow, guess he missed all those negatives about the bait and switch on a campaign. With such tunneled vision, many things make sense. Guess this is a no-buy from me too as this thread sealed the deal.

Ok that was the important part for me, thanks. I have read a lot of reviews plus saw a good bunch of updated gameplays and that was my impression, also. A shame these days all has to be focused on the online mp, even classic sp genres. Now it seems it's the contrary, focused on mp but "can" be player in sp. A shame.

I had put in a some hours to the pre release but now a lot has changed in the 1.0 version so not sure yet if I can post a good feedback on the game. What I will say is it is good enough that I have been playing it 3-4 times a week, not many new games get my attention like that.

It's more fun now after the update, it's amazing and all inclusive you can find many categories from other strategy games in this one.

yeah totally 150 hours of gameplay and still going but he doesn't like it but keeps playing and he doesn't recommend it for new players bcz of his opinion about a design in the game, top sincere valid review here!!

Did they hike the price with the 1.0 release? Lol I love the Dune books and I played a ton of Dune 2000 and Emperor back in the day but this game's cartoony art style and weird 4x / RTS gameplay certainly won't make me drop 35 euros on it. How about 20?

Where's the promised single player story campaign? This game just flipped from beta to finished almost overnight without warning. I guess the money ran out and they hoped to grab what they can before the ship sank.

What a bunch of lies. I went to double check what you claimed:
14th of september comments from reviews:
- incomplete rus translation
- lack of campaign
- art style quality
- lack of dune feel
- barebones content
- lack of polish
- AI cheating
- slow gameplay, long to finish a map
- army size
- influence system
- samey units
- lack of distinct/big differences between factions
- some people raised that dune title was slapped for sales
- repeated comments about stale gameplay
- slow movement of units across the maps

How can you post something like this without actually reading reviews? Are you trying to gaslight people?

To be fair, the reviews about "stale" or "slow" gameplay are not very relevants, as the game is designed to be slow.

What worry me more is all the feedback about the multiplayer focus. I played solo at the beginning of the EA, it was very good, but clearly needed more solo content. It seems from the comments here that it is not the direction the devs have taken alas.

Conquest mode is almost entirely SP focussed, buddy.

No it's not that bad. Most of the negative reviews are based the game not being 100% faithful to the IP, or some drama over be a recent character they added.

The game is a great real time 4x similar to Northguard. Focus on the reviews that talk about the gameplay and mechanics. I've read the books, and it treats the IP just fine for a video/board game.

Most of the negative reviews are a targeted astroturf by some far-right troll groups who take offense whenever being white isn't treated like the non-plus ultra of superior genetics.
