How do you unassign control groups?

As per title. So I dont have the same units in group 1-2-3...

To my knowledge you can't unassign. I usually select all the units for a group then assign the control group again. It overwrites the old setting. If you double click a unit, it selects all units of a certain type.

Maybe when you have nothing selected and then assign a group?

Yes. Deselect any and all control groups by clicking on an empty space on the map, and then assign nothing to the control group you wish to clear. This will remove any units assigned to this control group.
