Art Style
I absolutely HATE the cartoony art style of the character art.

So much so that I can't bring themself to play the game.

It doesn't match the gritty realism of DUNE at all.

Is there a mod that replaces the mobile phone cartoons with real people?

And I love it.

Yea yea, I get it, it doesn't matter that it looks like a bad mobile game and are completely out of place, not only with the Dune look, but with the rest of the game -- you still love them: maybe you've got bad taste, maybe you are related to the guy who did the character art OR maybe you are that guy.

I don't care.

Dune isn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cartoon.

I just want Dune character art that is at least superior to AI and fan art... both of which are better.

Don't believe me? Just google "Dune Fan Art" or even just "characters from Dune" ... 80% of the results look better than the characters in the game.

SO, anyways... is there a mod?

The art style is pretty nice.
Some aspects of it are a bit much, but it's a fun style that gets the point across. Would a full-blown, gritty, Dune-movie style artstyle fit? Definitely, maybe even better than this one. That doesn't make it bad by any means, and it's honestly just entertaining.

1000% better.... google DUNE FAN ART... they had to try hard to make it this cartoony and strange... any mods?

I really like the game (including the art style). However if you are after a more gritty and dark sci fi strategy, have you tried "Dawn of War: Dark Crusade" (base game) or "Dawn of War: Soulstorm" (modded, e.g. unification mod)? I played a lot of Dark Crusade before I even had a steam.
Yea I played those games they are great.... for me this art just ain't Dune. Looks like a mobile phone game and completely takes me out of it. Anyways, thanks for trying to be helpful.
Behind the Dune exists, so the claim that there is no 'cartoony' fan art, is pretty weak.

There's also stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37ecql122Fo

That was my claim at all... I said that MOST fan-art is better than the DUNE character art in the game... and by BETTER, I mean it looks more gritty, sandy and real than a cartoon or mobile phone app. The game should look a little more like any other representation of DUNE ever in book, video game or film.

Especially since the characters don't even move (no animation), there is NO reason for this to have been done in a cartoon style. this should have been so easy to get right... Go to a random AI now and see if it can't do better with the right prompt, seriously.

I haven't done so but I am confident after a couple trys and adjusted prompts it could do better.

Do you seriously think it looks good?

Yes. The game's rendering of a desert world is very good, and the units themselves are fine.

The units are representations intended for easy recognition on a strategic map.
Even the smallest military units would consist of dozens of men, not 3.

I can understand why one wouldn't like the art style. However, I like the art style for gameplay purposes. Everything is clear and clean and helps fast decision-making.
