So this is nothing like the Original?
Reading the reviews it seems like this is more total war style game than Command & Conquer style of the original.. I kinda wanted the original RTS with better graphics..

Also does it follow the lore accurately?

am i wrong?

This game neither has much to do with the original Dune 2 nor the Total War Series nor Civilization. Its a mix of styles. Real-time and strategy but not really tactical. In the original Dune 2 the combat-part was better - but there was nothing much else besides a little bit more base-building while here its limited to a certain number of slots per village (and thats OK for me). You always had to win by combat - a combat with more different units and more tactical options although it was of course a pioneer-game in that RTS-genre and often ended with the "strategy" to gather as many units as possible and swarm the enemy base. Here combat is just one way to win and act amongst several others like political or economic options. Accordingly simple and a little bit chaotic the combat-system is in my opinion. Regarding that true, more pure RTS-games are definitely better. But the variety of options here makes it in the end still an even better game for me than Dune 2 was (and probably fits more to the lore) - although its de facto just not comparable. And first I really was addicted to it but the better YOU become the more you realise how bad the AI is... ;-D And with the multiplayer-situation Im also not so really satisfied...

no its not and its pure @hit - its lame and the game is more like cityville and farm ville, but even less fun and have less things - every round is the same depends on luck if the AI go left or right at the begging of the level, the autosave and the save setting are a game breaker...
dune 2000 was better by far
this is not even a game only good if you want to spand your time on nothing.
you cant build anything in this game - NO STORY LINE AT ALL ! - the cut scene you see at the main page are not in the game at all !!!!
this is not really dune
only thing that isthe same as dune game\story that you hear spice hear and there and the worms ..
verry verry bad game !!!

You are clearly upset with the game and your experience with it. You've made multiple posts and even started a topic for more of your venting. Okay. You didn't like it. Your experience is yours. The game is fun for plenty of people. Even with my issues with how assassination is implemented, I still find the game fun and have already sunk many hours into it.

Opinions vary.

I was expecting something more dynamic and that looks like Dune games. It´s a poor game and the political interface is confusing. The music and graphics are beautiful, but the game lacks many things, different buildings, units, etc. It´s a little bit far also from the original books. Even the trailer of the game gave an distinct impression about the gameplay, speed and what the game really is. I was expecting much more.

Nothing like the "Original", meaning C&C 0,5 with a Dune skin? Ahem.

No wait, the actual original Dune game was the game made by Cryo Interactive. And it looks nothing like the Westwood game that came *after*. So if this Game looks nothing like the Westwood game... Good. In the end, the Cryo Game was the actual Original. Period.

This game is just created to farm money from people, it is not a real time strategi game like the Dune series is .. You are better off buying red alert series instead of this .. or the old dune games !

This game developer ruin the whole thing

Cryo was just a fraction in the game studios back then .. it was original created and published by Virgin games ! Westwood studios was sold to Virgin interactive

Today the owners are Microsoft and uhhm EA games ? idk .. perhaps WorldGaming ?

Virgin games in the 90s was some of the best games ever created, still to this day

The game Dune: Spice Wars is most similar to is Sins of a Solar Empire. Yes, they are quite different, but they both do the same basic thing: They take the complexity of a 4x game, and pack that into the presentation of a RTS game, except Dune is more ambitious - it also adds competent political and espionage layers.

It's not like total war games; it doesn't have 'battle screens', and it has a seamless tactical and strategic map and it always moves as a (pausable) RTS.

I find it a fairly unique and creative game well worth my time... even if it doesn't quite work 100%.

But, the OP doesn't want that. Despite having changed his tastes completely since the days of Dune 2, he still wants that game.

If so, here it is:

Your fault for not reading the store description, watching any videos, or reading any reviews, then.

Cryo Interactive was not a fraction in the game studios back then (1990) but rather a populair studio that made adventure games that were highly detailed for the time they were released. Their popularity may have been In, and around France though, which may cause the "Fraction of game studios" comment, but it is untrue nonetheless. I remember Cryo to have made richly detailed adventure games, Dune was their best selling title, and was a hybrid of Strategy and Adventure.

Dispite the arguement how populair they were, fact still stands: They made the Original Dune game.

NOT WESTWOOD.

Graphics much worse ( very cartoonish and typical low budget indie game ) , its like total war but very old ones - without battles, only figures showing chances of winning

I can tell you've never played a Total War game, because there was never a Total War "without battles".

Trolls novadays don't even bother with checking facts. They just make things up. Such disappointment, can't even troll properly.

They never claimed the game would be like the original. Move along if that’s not ok for you.
