Is this Dune game really not that Dune-y?
as title, seen quite a few reviews saying it

It depends on your expectations. If you expect a game like Dune I that was pretty much following the book's storyline, this is not it. If you want a strategy game with an environment, races, units, resources and some background (leaders, heroes) that are taken from the Dune universe, this is what you get from Dune: Spice Wars.
It's definitely a lot more Dune-inspired and a lot more true to the Dune universe than Dune II used to be.

I think it's very Dune-y, but as mentioned above, it doesn't follow the book(s) at all.
It is as Dune-y as a game can be.

Yeah I would agree, it's very heavy on the political/espionage/assassination system and the sandworms are a big part of gameplay. They mess with your harvesters and also swallow your people when they are on sand sometimes. Also you are always in a desert AFAIK so that helps.
Yeah, I don't really understand those reviewers. Not only does this feel pretty true to Dune (especially insofar as each faction rewards, well, behaving like that faction in the books), it feels like a really solid digital adaptation of the original board game in some spots. Not 1:1, but certainly evokes the feeling I've had playing it.

There is Only one Duney game
The first one…

But this Spice Wars is close!

There really is no more reason to recommend this game as being lore accurate to Dune, than Paul Verhoevens movie to Starship Troopers. Both change the weapons used and don’t really understand the society, but both have their own charm. The game has to grow on you on it’s own.

It captures the feel of Dune more than any game I've ever played, and I'm quite amazed at how well it is done. Paranoia, shifting alliances, backstabs and brute force are all part of every game.

Plot? No. There's no Paul. But who wants to fight a god with plot armour? :)

Are you looking for a Dune 2 RTS experience? If so then this is not the game for you.

What a great way to explain Dune Spice Wars. This game has some stupid ideas that break canon -for example the Fremen have Ornithopters while Duke Leto is still alive. Instead of being "butchered" by the Harkonnen (I remember that from the book) the Fremen are the most powerful warriors in the galaxy.

In all honestly I think I liked this game more about 10 months ago than I do now. That being said - It took a very long time for the Harkonnen military as a faction to not suck in this game.

It does feel like it is slowly moving in the right direction for most things.

Its accurate to the spirit of the books in being politics, economy driven, and bloody conflict. It is not true to canon.

There were occasional greasebags who were complaining that Dr. Liet Keynes was turned into a woman in the film and it bled over into the games. Those people are not to be taken seriously.

Just as those smoothbrains, that hate the Game for being so much more than Dune 2. And we had alot of these here, especially back when early access started.

Technically, he will be a councilor to Atreides now, after this patch.

I don't know much about the Dune universe, I've only played Dune 2000 and watched the 2021 movie. This game is much more closer to the movie than Dune 2000 that's for sure. At least everyone fight with swords in this game, in Dune 2000 everyone fight with tanks and machineguns.

It doesn't follow the Dune story line, but it definitely feels "Dune-y". More like an alt-universe, where many houses and factions have a giant war over Arrakis all at once.
